Project Statement

Company: Gage Academy of Art is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing classical training to contemporary artists. It is a learning community passionate about the many ways art changes lives. Gage Academy of Art’s studio programs offer hands-on, rigorous training in the techniques of drawing, painting and sculpting. They believe that one’s talent emerges naturally as their skills grow and the only prerequisite for their courses is the desire to learn. The organization offers adult programs, youth programs and art tours. Gage became a national resource for artists who seek quality arts education and professional development opportunities. At Gage, teaching art will always mean expanding minds and hearts as well as training eyes and hands.

Problem: Gage’s Academy of Art’s founders Gary Faigin and Pamela Belyea have a Spanish-themed event coming up. The Gage Collector’s Gala — Art Auction & Benefit, the academy’s major fund-raiser event, needs promotion in a manner that speaks to the theme.

Opportunity: This problem gives me the opportunity to create a concept that promotes the event and embodies its theme.

Solution: I created a promotional package that not only communicates the organization’s mission, but also reflects the event’s theme. I built my concept around the Spanish culture and its different manifestations: the Flamenco dancer and the Spanish fan.

Pamela Belyea - Gage Academy of Art - Executive Director & Co-founder: Our role here at the academy is to glorify art and provide an opportunity for the community to experience the many ways art changes lives. Gage Collector’s Gala Art Auction and Benefit is our major fund-raiser event and we aim at raising at least $200,000 through raffle tickets, tickets sales, art sales, and donations.

Jim Kelly, 4Culture Executive Director - Donor & Supporter: I think one of the aspects of Gage that distinguishes it from other art schools is its commitment to youth. In the year 2000, it established the InterCity Project, a year-long program of intensive art classes for homeless youth and established youth programs providing in-school specialists and free after school visual arts classes at five elementary schools in the Seattle School District. Besides after-school and weekend youth classes, the school now offers a popular, free Friday night program, Teen Art Studios, for teens to socialize and explore their own creativity. Also, in June of every year, Gage hosts its “Best of Gage” annual student show and open house. Gage has become more than an arts school. Its founders, Gary Faigin and Pamela Belyea, have created a community center focused on visual art that serves artists from age 6 (youngest) to 86 (oldest) and a vibrant hub of activity on Capitol Hill in Seattle. My organization, 4Culture, is proud to support Gage Academy financially to help it continue its work in the service of the citizens of Seattle.

Jennifer Dave - Instructor at Gage: I am a current teaching artist and lecturer at Gage Academy of Art. My experience at Gage over the past three years has been thoroughly positive. The passion and engagement in arts education that I have witnessed from my colleagues is refreshing, challenging, and inspiring. An important element of Gage is that it provides a supportive environment for instructors that are also working artists - providing opportunities to show and discuss our works/research with the student body and the larger public. This creates a meaningful dialog and curiosity for learning between students and instructors. Gage is an asset to the Seattle arts community.

Alfonso - Volunteer: I have always been a proponent of providing artistic outlets for adults as well as children. Gage takes this one step further by combining the excellence of world recognized artists to teach and provide inspiration to generations of aspiring artists. As a subject too often lopped off school budgets, the need for art education has never been greater. Without it the density of the fabric of our cultural life is greatly diminished.

Rachel - Client: My children have attended Youth Programs at Gage over the past decade. The programs are well taught, well organized and provide real educational value. In fact, the teaching artists at Gage are incredible! I have been impressed with their passion about arts education and the breadth and depth of their visual arts curriculum.

The Nintendo Corporation, Andaluca, and Ilahie are major sponsors of the event. The event will feature prizes and great food. A mere 300 guests will have the opportunity to celebrate with art and style. Tickets are $175 for one Gala Guest, $300 for one Special Guest, and $1000 per couple for a VIP Guest Package.

masterpiece payment planAt Gage, our mission is to both help develop great artists and help make art accessible for everyone. The

Masterpiece Payment Plan is our way of helping connect great collectors with great art in an affordable

way. At the auction check out, guests may select this payment option for artwork purchases:

› 25% deposit paid at the Gage Collector’s Gala.

› 25% payments on April 1, May 1 & June 1 2011.

› After the artwork is paid in full, guests may take the artwork home.

Auction RulesAll guests will be given a bid card on entry.

You will use this number to bid with. We suggest you

write your name on the back if the card so we can get it

back to you in case you misplace it. Your high bid on live

or silent auction items is a commitment to purchase that

item. Bidding is only counted when you write your bid

number and amount on a silent auction form or by displaying

your bid card to the auctioneer in the live auction.

We reserve the right to withdraw items from the auction, or

add items to the auction, at any time or without notice.

All items are sold as is, without warranty.

The value listed is our best estimate of fair market value.

However, auction items have not been professionally appraised.

Live Auction RulesTo bid on an item, simply show your bid card to the auctioneer.

Bids will be accepted until no one bids further, in which

case the item will be declared sold to the high bidder.

Silent Auction RulesItems offered in the silent auction will have

silent auction bid forms attached to them.

You may bid by simply adding your bid number

to the minimum bid, or if that has already been

taken, by adding your bid number and a higher bid

amount on the line below the existing high bid. Please observe minimum bid and bid increment

amounts noted on the form. Please write legibly so that your bid may be properly accounted. You

may purchase the item outright by putting your bid number next to the “Buy It Now” amount.

You may bid anytime during the evening up until closing time for the Silent Auction.

Closing time will be announced by the auctioneer. On closing, all bid forms will be picked

up for processing. You may inquire if you have won something at the cashiers table.

Please allow 20-30 minutes time for the cashiers to process the forms after the closing.
