Skåne, in the far south of Sweden, is the perfect location for your next event and has quickly become one of

Europe’s top regions for events. Our proximity to Copenhagen Airport, Scandinavia’s biggest airport, and our efficient public transport system make it easy for visitors to get here from all parts of Europe. Over the next few years, we’ll play host to events such as the UEFA European Under-21 Championship and the men’s World Championship in Handball. With several new world-class arenas, superb infrastructure and a local market of some 3.6 million people, we have what it takes to host truly major events.

New world-class arenasAutumn 2008 saw the opening of two new multi-purpose arenas in Malmö and Lund. A new soccer stadium will be ready in time for the UEFA European Under-21 Championship in 2009. The following year, new multi-purpose arenas in Kristianstad and Helsingborg will boost capacity further.

The arenas are located close to the city centres, within easy reach of shopping, meeting places and hotels. The Malmö Arena is just a 20-minute train ride from Scandinavia’s largest airport.

With these new arenas and their high level of service, Skåne is one of those regions where events happen. Take for example the 2011 men’s World Championship in Handball, where half the games, including the final, will be played in Skåne.

Opera lover or rock fan? In Skåne, there’s no need to choose. We offer a veritable smorgasbord of culture

– from choral festivals to innovative rap.The landscape attracts painters and writers,

designers and craftspeople. Art galleries and arts centres serve up fresh exhibits each season. The installations in the Wanås sculpture park attract artists from all over the world. Through-out the region, galleries, studio tours and museums provide artistic stimulation.

Skåne boasts magnificent cultural heritage. A country drive will take you past ancient burial mounds, medieval churches and centuries-old castles. If modern architecture is more your style, take a stroll through Malmö’s Västra Ham-nen district or Norra Hamnen in Helsingborg.

We could write a whole chapter about Skåne’s natural beauty. It’s no coincidence that world-famous director Ingmar Bergman chose to make seven movies here in the 1950s and 1960s. Present-day filmmakers looking to use Skåne as a location are welcome to obtain free advice from the öresund Film Commission, a joint Swedish–Danish organization.

Skåne has everything that the rest of Sweden is known and loved for: natural beauty, friendly and safe

cities, fresh air and clean lakes. But we also offer visitors some very distinctive specialties. Skåne is a lively, exciting region with a wealth of cultural and culinary excellence. It’s easy to feel at home here. Almost everyone can converse effortlessly in English, and many people also speak a second or even a third foreign language.

In Skåne, you’ll find rural idylls and vibrant city life, challenging golf courses and relaxing hiking trails, medieval castles and ultra-modern architecture. This special closeness between attractions and people makes Skåne one of the regions where events happen in Northern Europe.

When it comes to experiences in Skåne, there’s no need to choose one or the other. you can enjoy both. Skåne is the best of both worlds, and this also holds true where events are concerned.

The best of both worldsFACTS

Sweden’s own favouriteSkåne is the best-loved and most visited region of Sweden, according to a survey by Brand Clinic of 600 respondents in Southern and Central Sweden.

Skåne is in the south of Sweden – but it’s part of the North nonetheless. The countryside may be covered in a dusting of snow for a couple of months each year.

The leisure scene is cosy and informal. On light, warm summer evenings, people like to stay outside until late.
