FINAL DESIGN PRELIMINARY TASK

Page 4: Evaluation question 7

Designing the preliminary task and the final product was completely different. When designing my final product I had to go into much more real detail and be more professional compared to when I was designing my preliminary task. In order to get the gain a sense of realism for my final product I had do to some research into existing professional magazine, such as VIBE & Kerrang, whereas for the preliminary task I didn’t as it wasn’t as professional. When doing my preliminary task I was struggling to use good software to design with but at the end of my final production I had a good understanding of how to use InDesign very well.

When creating my preliminary task I used software package Microsoft PowerPoint to construct my design. This software was very limited, in terms of what effects and structure I could use to construct my product. Using Microsoft PowerPoint it provided very basic tools to use and work with therefore I couldn’t be very effective and creative when designing and creating my preliminary task. Whereas InDesign has much more features that aid the constructing of making magazine pages. This software offered many more effective features that made my production look more detailed and professional. Using InDesign I used the layer option to structure my magazine and organise it so it looks professional and well-organised. The image quality in InDesign was much better than the quality of the images used for my preliminary task. This is because InDesign can enhance the pixilation of a photo better, as this is what InDesign specialises in, than Microsoft PowerPoint. Also creating the layout of my preliminary task on Microsoft PowerPoint wasn’t really good due to layer options being limited to one; therefore the whole production had to be layered into one. Also I used photoshop, for my final, product, to enhance my images and insert effects and edit the images I’m using. This includes cropping out the background or any unwanted parts of the images, including any effects such as transparency, etc. This was better then using Microsoft Powerpoint, when creating my preliminary task, as Microsoft Powerpoint offered basic or mediocre effect tools/features and not to the same scale as the effect features at Adobe Photoshop. Some of these basic effects include, rough background removal, change of colour, etc.

When creating my final product I had to use more professional software, this is because I needed more professional tools to use for the creation and enhance the professional look for my product. I had to do much research into professional magazine pages so I had an idea of the layout and structure of them, for example: barcodes, image, text, website, etc, which helped me create my final product. When creating my preliminary task I used simple basic software and didn’t do any research into any existing products, so it was really basic.
