    Compulsory Death at 77?

    (A Reflection)

God gave us a life that we must take good care of. It is a life that we shouldcherish and give importance more than anything else. From infancy up to old age, onlyGod knows the exact time a person will die. We must also be thankful because theseelders that we are talking about are our grandparents or ancestors. They came first, notus.

On many progressing countries, the life of an old woman is no longer significantbecause she herself is not productive anymore. She has become a burden to her familyand to the society. However, this woman is still alive with her heart beating and her life

is still ongoing. Such a terrible condition and a shame for those countries that when aperson reaches 77, he/she shall give up his/her own life. Good news still stays becauseof some first world countries, though considered as an aging population, continue tosustain the basic needs and necessities of the elderly.

In my own experience, euthanasia is not evident in countries like Singapore,Hongkong, Canada and the United States of America. I have noticed that in theseplaces, even at old age, the people work because they have jobs. They are still part ofthe manpower that composes the economy of a country. They earn money. However, most of them do not have their families. It is really sad to know because when a familyleaves you, it seems that you are already dead for they do not need you anymore likeyou do not exist.

Euthanasia can be seen or witnessed in countries that experience poverty likethe Philippines. Why? It is because in some cases, patients are not fully provided withcare if they do not have enough money to render. A comatose person, whose family ispoor, cannot prolong the life of their loved one because they do not have much moneyto pay the bills corresponding to the extended usage of the apparatus used by thepatient. So, they will then decide to use mercy killing instead. A progressing country canprovide the 24/7 needs of the patient for free; no one will think of euthanasia. TheCatholic Church is against the idea of euthanasia but can they sustain the needs of adying person if they will not resort to any alternative. Much has been said. Much hasbeen followed. Religion contradicts. Money dictates. Man decides. No one exactly

knows the right thing to do especially on our situation today.Mercy killing on the other hand does not directly mean killing a person

intentionally but ending the sufferings of a loved one for the better with full of rationalexplanations behind it.

If I were to choose, if a person wishes to end his/her sufferings, Ill pray to Godand ask for enlightenment. I might also consider to follow his/her last wish.
