Jesus speaks to us through Scripture

The celebration of the Liturgy of the Word is a significant part of the Mass. The books we use during liturgy to read the scriptures serve as signs and symbols of the sacred because from these we

hear the word of God. This is why we show reverence to the books. The book we use for the 1st and 2nd readings is called the lectionary and the book we use for the Gospel reading is called the Book of Gospels. As the Book of the Gospels is carried in the entrance procession or from the altar to the ambo, the minister elevates it reverently to help focus attention on the dignity of the word and prepare the assembly to listen attentively. The General Instruction of the Roman Missal (.29) states that, “When the Sacred Scriptures are read in the Church, God Himself speaks to His people, and Christ, present in His own word, proclaims the Gospel.” We are, therefore, listening to Christ Himself. That is why the appropriate posture is to stand when the Book of Gospels is in procession and the Gospel is being proclaimed. The readings are explained in the Homily where God speaks to His people offering them spiritual nourishment. This is why we sit silently during the Homily and listen to message. The Homily is not a time for ‘taking a bathroom break’ or ‘checking messages on your cellphone; or ‘having conversation with someone’. It is a time to listen and make God’s word our own.

La Liturgia de la Palabra tiene mucho sentido en la celebración Eucarística. Los libros que se utilizan para leer la Liturgia de La Palabra sirven de signo y símbolo muy sagrado porque de estos escuchamos la Palabra de Dios. Por esta razón hacemos reverencia a estos libros litúrgicos. El libro que utilizamos para la primera y segunda lectura se llama el leccionario y el libro de donde se lee el Evangelio se llama el Evangeliario. Mientras se lleva el libro de los Evangelios en la procesión de entrada o desde el altar al ambo, el ministro lo eleva con reverencia para ayudar a enfocar la atención a la dignidad de la palabra y preparar así a la asamblea para escuchar atentamente. La Ordenación General del Misal Romano (.29) nos dice que Cuando se leen en la Iglesia las Sagradas Escrituras es Dios mismo quien habla a Su pueblo y Cristo, esta presente en la Palabra, anunciando la Buena Nueva. Estamos, por lo tanto, escuchando a Cristo mismo. Por eso, la postura adecuada es ponerse de pie cuando el Libro de los Evangelios está en procesión y el Evangelio se proclama. Las lecturas se explican en la Homilía donde Dios habla a Su pueblo, ofreciéndoles alimento espiritual. Por eso, nos sentamos en silencio durante la Homilía a escuchar el mensaje. La Homilía no es un tiempo para "tomar un descanso e ir al baño" o "mirar los mensajes en su teléfono celular" o de "tener una conversación con alguien”. Es un tiempo para escuchar y hacer la Palabra de Dios nuestra.

Il saisit l'occasion pour les instruire, une fois de plus, sur la fragilité du monde visible.Le texte décrit un bouleversement cosmique colossal, et dans la mentalité apocalyptique du temps, la chute des divinités maîtresses de l'univers annonçait le triomphe définitif du Dieu unique sur l'idolâtrie des peuples. Les images n'ont donc rien à voir avec l'astrophysique moderne, et ce que nous appelons la fin du monde traduisait, pour les lecteurs de saint Marc, la naissance du “monde nouveau” promis par Isaïe (65, 17 et 66, 22). Il ne faut donc pas y chercher l'annonce de cataclysmes sismiques mais plutôt la suite logique de la bonne nouvelle proclamée par Jésus et consignée par saint Marc pour les chrétiens de Rome. L'auteur aime les images et celles qu'il propose sont connues de ses lecteurs. c'était la représentation du chaos des origines d'où allait émerger, à travers la souffrance, une nouvelle création. Les rappels bibliques sont également nombreux et la vision du Fils de l'homme venant avec les nuées du ciel a souvent été évoquée en saint Marc, surtout dans le contexte de la mort de Jésus. Enfin, ce chapitre se termine sur une image vibrante; le vainqueur des ténèbres reviendra dans l'une des quatre veilles de la nuit: “Veillez donc, car vous ne savez pas quand le maître de la maison reviendra, le soir ou à minuit, au chant du coq ou le matin.” Son retour sera donc à l'image du matin de Pâques. Nous sommes au temps de la persécution de Néron, et par-delà la primitive Église de Rome, cet enseignement traverse les âges: ne vous laissez ni égarer ni ébranler; levez les yeux; reprenez courage; restez fidèles; car le Seigneur reviendra: “Marana tha! Viens, Seigneur Jésus!” C'est le fondement de notre espérance proclamé en temps de crise. Depuis lors, des millions d'hommes et de femmes sont entrés dans le mouvement pour préparer, non pas la catastrophe universelle, mais une immense fête du retour de Jésus dans la gloire.

Niños y Niñas con su traje típico de-ben llegar a las 6:30 p.m. para acompañar a Nuestra Señora en procesión.

CATECHUMENS RETREAT RETIRO CATECUMENOS

Los catecúmenos tendrán un retiro el 21 de noviembre. De ser posible los padres y padrinos deben asistir al retiro. El retiro se llevará a cabo entre 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. en el Salón Espíritu Santo.

The Catechumens will have a retreat on November 21st. Parents and godparents are expected to attend the retreat, if possible. The retreat will take place, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Holy Spirit Room.

On Wednesday November 18th, we celebrate the feast of Our Lady Mother of the Divine Providence. There will be only one session of Faith For-mation at 7:00 p.m. Our La-dy will enter in procession.

We need Jibaritos/Jibaritas; Children with the typical attire should arrive at 6:30 p.m. to escort our Lady in pro-cession.

Faith Formation congratulates all the students who celebrated their First Reconciliation last November 11th. We are sure that Jesus, the Good Shep-herd, who gave His life for His sheep, is happy with those holy and renewed little souls. We take this opportunity to congratulate their parents, and express our thankfulness to our priests and cat-echists. Without their support this achievement would not have been possible.
