We are not without problems or difficulties, but generally, Ihave been impressed by the wide range of activities I have encoun- tered. The hospitality I received was first rate in all cases and I want to thank everyone who contributed from one end of the country to the other. As you read this message many sec- tions will be preparing for general meet- ings, and elections for the section executives will be looming on the horizon. Please consider that the strength of the institute lies with the individual members. If you, as an individual, or a section, have matters that council should consider, put them forward as items to be raised by your section council member. Much of the business of CIFST is done through our committees and executive. However, you as a member can and should be heard by council if there are issues to be raised. Mention of pre-conference council reminds me of the annual conference which will be held immediately after- wards. I will deal more fully with this issue in my next message but for now I've had several inquiries as to the absence of the Guide to Authors in the February issue. The Guide is presently In memoriam - Gwen E. Leslie Suddenly, on December 17, 1985. Gwen was born in Morden where she grew up on the experimental farm. She graduated in Home Eco- nomics at the University of Manitoba in 1955. She wrote for the Winnipeg Free Press, Winnipeg Tribune and the Country Guide and acted as COnsumer consultant with the Federal Department of Fisher- ies and then with the Depart- ment of Health and Welfare, Health Protection Branch. Gwen served on the Board of Governors of the Univer- sity of Manitoba and on the Alumni Executive. She was active in both the Provincial and National Home Eco- nomics Associations. I would just like to remind you that the 29th annual conference will be held in Calgary from June 29th to July 2nd. The conference committee has been work- ing hard and a first-rate meeting awaits all who make it to Calgary this year. Your conference committee has spared no expense to have the Calgary Stam- pede immediately follow our confer- ence (July 4-13) and to have B.C. and Vancouver stage a world class expo- sition. This issue is the second in which I have managed to incorporate minor cosmetic changes to the Institute Affairs section of the Journal. As Bob Cross notes in his Communique, there are changes planned for the contents of this section but these will depend upon you, the members. This is your Journal and its vitality and impact reflect your input.
