The Equity, Inclusion, and Anti-Racism Coordinator (“Equity Coordinator”) will be responsible for guiding Saint Paul Public Library in defining and creating specific goals, objectives, and projects across all areas of operations that advance equity, inclusion, and anti-racism for staff, library users, and the broader Saint Paul community. ABOUT THIS POSITIONLibraries are an essential part of our social infrastructure. Libraries, like all other areas of government, have been built on a foundation of systemic racism.

At Saint Paul Public Library (SPPL), we offer resources for learning, connection, healing, and transformation. We also commit to dismantling practices embedded in our system that contribute to inequity.

Our SPPL vision, co-created with community, states, “We imagine a Saint Paul where all people feel seen, safe, and welcome. We imagine a city where libraries bring people together to experience hope, joy, and creativity through learning.” To make this vision true, we need to practice equity, inclusion, and anti-racism in everything we do at SPPL.

The Equity, Inclusion, and Anti-Racism Coordinator at Saint Paul Public Library (“Equity Coordinator”) will provide oversight and coordination for Saint Paul Public Library’s equity, inclusion, and anti-racism work, including: • Annual department equity, diversity, inclusion (EDI) and anti-racism

workplan • Library staff training and development• Policy and program analysis with an equity lens• Documentation and communication of SPPL’s equity journey and impact

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Organizational Planning and Accountability

• Coordinate development of annual SPPL equity workplan and track progress towards goals.

• Plan and manage projects to advance equity, inclusion, and anti-racism priorities in the Library.

• Facilitate organizational accountability for applying an equity lens across all community-focused and internal operational goals.

• Actively participate in and provide leadership for cross-functional projects, bringing equity, inclusion, and anti-racism lenses to all areas of work.

Data-Informed Practice

• Provide leadership and support in using the City of Saint Paul’s Racial Equity Toolkit and other data-informed approaches to assessing equity impacts and opportunities in purchasing, workforce, programs, policies, community engagement, and more.

Staff Learning and Workplace Culture

• Partner with Library Senior Leadership Team to develop staff training and development strategy on equity, inclusion, and anti-racism building on established foundations.

Coordinate spending of at least $30,000 annually in Library endowment funds that support staff training and development on these topics.

Build off current and past work with the following approaches: intercultural development continuum (IDI); intercultural conflict styles (ICSI); truth, racial healing, and transformation; and Government Alliance on Race and Equity.

Develop and manage relationships and contracts with external training and development partners.

Track spending of funds that support individual or groups of employees to attend fee-based training.

• Generate and share relevant insights to coach and empower managers to impact workplace culture.

• Facilitate continuous organizational learning by developing and maintaining relationships with others in the field.

Communication and Engagement • Document and share the Library’s history and journey in advancing

equity in our organization and in our community.

• Ensure proactive, consistent internal and external communication of SPPL’s equity, inclusion, and anti-racism efforts.

• Advise on and support community engagement for specific projects or initiatives, such as facilities renovations and program design.

Committees, Workgroups, and Programming • Co-chair and coordinate the Library’s Equity Change Team.

• Collaborate with other SPPL committees, workgroups, and programming teams to ensure that Library programs, partnerships, outreach, and engagement efforts are developed and assessed through an equity lens, and are reflective and inclusive of the diverse perspectives, cultures, and needs of our community.

Equity, Inclusion, and Anti-Racism Adviser, Partner, and Collaborator • Serve as a member of the Library’s senior leadership team, which also

includes the Director, Deputy Director of Operations, Deputy Director of Public Services, and Marketing and Communications Manager.

Advise on business process improvement opportunities related to department’s public services, operations, and marketing and communication activities.

Partner with colleagues to prepare proposals and project plans for change.

• Collaborate with the City of Saint Paul’s Chief Equity Officer and citywide equity programs and initiatives.

• Represent SPPL locally and nationally in efforts to strengthen and advance the library field’s practice of equity and anti-racism.

QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSA Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Education, Urban Planning, Information Systems, Management, Business Management, or a closely-related field and four (4) years of experience in program administration, at least two (2) years of which must have been in a responsible administrative capacity.

Professional experience can be substituted for education on a year for year basis.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS• Experience implementing practice around equity, inclusion, anti-

racism, and centering communities and perspectives that have been historically marginalized.

• Experience applying an equity, inclusion, and anti-racism lens to influence systems change and addressing complex challenges.

• Experience as a project manager who is focused on results and impact. Initiate, plan, and coordinate multiple projects, ranging from routine to complex.

• Background in policy or program analysis, and/or program development. Data-informed (quantitative and qualitative) approach to identifying issues, recommendations, and impact.

• Written and verbal communication skills, including facilitation and presentation skills.

• Collaborator - with colleagues and with community members. Lead with a co-creation mindset and approach. Ability to motivate and negotiate with diverse individuals and groups.

• Proven ability to develop and maintain relationships and partnerships.

• Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning.

• Demonstrated ability to identify, navigate, and address challenges associated with EDI and anti-racism work.

COMPENSATIONThe City of Saint Paul offers a generous compensation and benefits package. The salary range for this position is $66,352.00 - $93,288.00 annually. Starting salary is dependent upon experience and qualifications.

• Invested in significant training and development: intercultural skills, conflict styles, trauma-sensitive practices, foundations of racial equity, racial healing, and other topics related to equity, inclusion, and anti-racism.

• Prioritize investment in BIPOC authors, artists, instructors, and partners for programs such as Read Brave, Summer Spark, and Maker, Arts, and Culture activities

• Conducted equity-focused community learning process to inform re-writing SPPL mission, vision, values, and strategic goals.

• Eliminated late fines.

• Ended use of off-duty police officers for supplemental security. Added Community Ambassadors and developed the Welcoming Youth, Strengthening Relationships model to take relational, restorative approaches to working with young people in libraries.

• Expanded career pathways and reduced barriers to advancement within the Library workforce.

• Hosted staff-led listening sessions with BIPOC employees that led to recommendations for a more anti-racist workplace culture, including launch of staff-facilitated Racial Equity Learning Conversations (RĒL Conversations), which are a brave, comfortable, and supportive space for staff to have virtual conversations on racial equity and inclusion in the workplace and beyond.
