Julian Sartorius Schlagzeug, Perkussion

Biografie:

Der Beat ist das bestimmende Element im Leben von Julian Sartorius. 1981 in Thun

geboren, fand er als fünfjähriger zum Schlagzeug. Mit seinen Rhythmen, die Neue Musik,

Hip- Hop und Weltmusik ausloten, zeigt Sartorius die Vielfalt und Möglichkeiten seines

Instrumentes auf. Öfters präpariert er das Schlagzeug, arbeitet mit ungewöhnlichen

akustischen Sounds und erschliesst so Schlag um Schlag eine ungehörte Klangwelt.

Seine Ausbildung absolvierte Julian Sartorius bei Dozenten wie Fabian Kuratli, Pierre

Favre und Norbert Pfammatter an den Jazzschulen in Bern und Luzern und kollaboriert

seither mit Musikern wie Matthew Herbert, Shahzad Ismaily, Sylvie Courvoisier, Dimlite,

Merz, Fred Frith, Sophie Hunger, Rhys Chatham und vielen anderen. Tourneen führten ihn

durch Europa, nach Südamerika, Japan, Kanada und in die USA. Zudem spielt Julian

Sartorius Solo-Konzerte in ganz Europa und war Support-Act für Bands und Künstler wie

Deerhoof, Faust, Marc Ribot, Jaki Liebezeit und Arto Lindsay.

Sartorius gewann verschiedene Preise – und 2014 war er zusammen mit einer Auswahl

der einflussreichsten Schweizer Musikern für den ersten Swiss Music Prize nominiert.

Sartorius veröffentlichte diverse Solo-Alben, unter anderem die 12-LP-Box «Beat Diary»,

die 365 Beats und ein Fotobuch umfasst. Seine Videoinstallation «Schläft ein Lied in allen

Dingen» wurde in verschiedenen Kunstgalerien gezeigt. Eine weitere audiovisuelle Arbeit

ist sein Web-Projekt Morph: Täglich fügt Sartorius seiner Bildcollage neue Elemente hinzu

– und verändert den 8-Sekunden-Klangloop.
