Part C: Grammar

1.      Provide complete sentence trees for the first two sentences shown in the passage below (those sentences that are underlined).

2.      Provide appropriate editorial symbols for each error in the passage. Provide these symbols directly on the passage as shown below. Then, on a separate sheet of paper, provide a corrected version of the passage.

The sentences in this passages body are real simple and short. It has a number of errors, the occasional major faux pas, and a bit of waz-happinin’ grammar. The ridiculous parts were developed by the teacher. Hes good at this stuff. I, on the other hand, slam the words down well. But don’t tell the Mr. Jones that cause he thinks I’m needin’ t’improve my style, and, like, he’s like that with the other students in the class and I think that this is unfair . Grade nine is like that though you got to be tough. Tough like a rubber chicken!!

Style - /5 The following passage contains a number of grammatical problems. Circle the location of each problem you find, number it, and, on a separate sheet of paper use the number to describe the nature of the problem. Finally, after having identified and described all problems provide a corrected version of this passage.

Shakespeares 1 play Twelfth night is real funny. And I liked it a lot. The best part was where, like, Toby gets sir Andrew and Viola to duke it out with swards. I thought it was funny, he was also always getting drunk to.

Part C: Grammar The following passage contains a number of grammatical problems.  The boy and his big, tough brother’s friend went to the store. He was angry about the store guys attitude. All the time. So when I saw them I asked him why he even bothered going there and he said he didn’t know so I said he was an idiot and then we started a fight that went on all afternoon but I didn’t care because I didn’t have anything else to do and then I went home. I watched some television, my mom phoned later to see what I was doing. I said nothing and went to bed it wasn’t a very good day.

The boy and his big, tough brother’s friend went to the store.
