Leviticus 23:1-2 1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, Concerning the feasts of the LORD, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are my feasts.

The Appointed Times

Leviticus 23:4 These are the feasts of the LORD, even holy convocations, which ye shall proclaim in their seasons.

Convocations = Miqraw = convocation, a calling together, a rehearsal

Seasons = Mow’ed = appointed place, appointed time, meeting; appointed sign or signal

The Sabbath

Leviticus 23:3 Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the Sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein: it is the Sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings.

The Passover

Leviticus 23:4-5 4 These are the feasts of the LORD, even holy convocations, which ye shall proclaim in their seasons. 5 In the fourteenth day of the first month at even is the LORD'S Passover.

Unleavened BreadLeviticus 23:6

And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread unto the LORD: seven days ye must eat unleavened bread.

Passover and the Resurrection

The festival liturgies for Passover also hint toward the resurrection of the dead. For example, in the synagogue, we pray a special petition called The Prayer for Dew on the first day of Passover, marking the end of the rainy season in the land of Israel.

Leviticus 23:10 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come into the land which I give unto you, and shall reap the harvest thereof, then ye shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest unto the priest:

Shavu’ot and the Messianic Era

On the festival of Shavu' ot we rejoice both spiritually and physically simultaneously because it is the time of the giving of our Torah, in that the Holy One, blessed be He, gave us His Torah of truth which gives rest to the soul, and He gave us eternal life and length of days, both physically for this world and spiritually for the world to come. Keeping the Festivals

Leviticus 23:21 And ye shall proclaim on the selfsame day, that it may be an holy convocation unto you: ye shall do no servile work therein: it shall be a statute for ever in all your dwellings throughout your generations.

The Fall Festivals

"There will be a sukkah to give shade from the heat by day, and refuge and protection from the storm and the rain" (Isaiah 4:6). This is why it is called the season of rejoicing.

The list of ten remembrances alludes to the coming of the Messiah

The sound of Messiah's shofar will announce His arrival, the inauguration of His kingdom, and His coronation. The world will repent and renounce its wickedness. He will bring a fresh revelation of God to the world, transcending the revelation at Sinai, and the Torah will go forth from Zion as it once did from Sinai..

The Day of Atonement

Leviticus 23:28

And ye shall do no work in that same day: for it is a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you before the LORD your God.

The Feast of Tabernacles

Leviticus 23:33-34 33 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 34 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the feast of tabernacles for seven days unto the LORD.

Sukkot and the Messianic Era

Chasidic teaching also connects the festival of Sukkot with the coming kingdom of Messiah on earth. Rabbi Meisels taught that each of the festivals celebrates a historical event and a future element of the final redemption. He explained that Sukkot celebrates both the past and the future. It celebrates the historic exodus from Egypt when Israel dwelt in booths, and it celebrates the future Messianic Era:

The Eighth Day

Leviticus 23:36 Seven days ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD: on the eighth day shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD: it is a solemn assembly; and ye shall do no servile work therein.

The SignatureLeviticus 23:44 And Moses declared unto the children of Israel the feasts (appointed times) of the LORD. The appointed times of the LORD are like annual rehearsals for the appointed times of redemption and blueprints for the work of Messiah. The spring festivals of Pesach, the Orner, and Shavu' ot all received a messianic fulfillment in the Master's first coming. The fall festivals of the Rosh HaShanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, and Shemini Atzeret all point toward His second coming.

They are a "shadow of what is to come" (Colossians 2: 17).
