Aims
To present the syllabus of Body language and diction
To raise issues to address across the modules
To raise technical issues arising from the modules
To present the syllabus of Business English
Body language and diction aims:This module aims to focus on non-verbal communication and diction in preparing for interviews and in the workplace.
Unit 1 is about first impressions
Unit 2 is about speaking and listening
Unit 3 is about ways of expressing emotions including gestures, space and body language
Unit 4 is about the management of emotions and the body including stress and anger management.
Business English Aims:
Focus is on language skills in applying for jobs .
Unit 1 describes your skills and experiences positively and in good English.
Unit 2 trains you in completing an application form and answering questions.
Unit 3 shows you how to create a good CV, practising the relevant language for this.
Unit 4 shows you how to write an effective covering letter.
Issues arising across the modules:
Avoid making many changes to modules now.
Overlap between modules and consistency in message, content and workload.
Distinguishing between opinion and critical engagement with the content.
Order in which students take the modules
High pass rate and only one chance with the test
Quality of academic English in modules.
Technical Issues with Adobe Captivate
UoW has neither the software nor expertise which has caused delays and meant module writers can’t see the process through.
Managing the interactivity:•How easy is it for students to move back and forward in the module when doing exercises?•How have the other teams set up exercises in terms of introducing the answers? •How does the discussion board work? Who monitors it? Is this linked to the diary module?•Availability of all modules at the same time?
