Fed survey shows US recession may be over

Federal Reserve survey shows worst recession since World War II may be over

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Economic activity is stabilizing or improving in the vast majority of the country, according to a

government survey released Wednesday. The findings indicate that the worst recession since the 1930s may be

over.

The Federal Reserve's snapshot of economic conditions backs predictions by Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke and most

other analysts that the economy has started to grow once again in the current quarter.

What is the FHA?

• The goals of the organization are: to improve housing standards and conditions; to provide an adequate home financing system through insurance of mortgage loans; and to stabilize the mortgage market.

• FHA has regained favor, following the disappearance of subprime financing products.

• Flexible underwriting standards geared to a wider spectrum of buyers helped FHA mortgages grow from 2 percent market share in 2006 to over one-third of mortgages in the country in 2008.*

cash resources and less-than-perfect credit.

• Seller contributions up to 6% regardless of loan-to-value.
