    THE KADAZANDUSUN ENGLISH PERFORMANCE

This activity were held at the St Theresa open hall in Tambunan,Sabah on the 2 nd

October 2012. It is an English Panel activity which involved all teachers, parents and

pupils in SRK St.Theresa Tambunan. The rational of this activity is to develop pupils

interest in learning English language through the activity that being organise and to

enhance pupils fluency and awareness of English through the use of familiar, well

known KadazanDusun stories and songs and getting the pupils to translate them into

English and performing them in front of an audience.

The focus of the activity is the performance done by the pupils. The

performances which are to be presented and perform are translation from the

KadazanDusun ethnic stories and songs. The objectives of the performance are to give

the opportunity to the pupils to take part in any of the activity they liked such as, story

telling, drama, dance and choir. Besides taking part in the activity, the pupils can

enhance their competency in the language, improve their confidence and motivate

    them to learn.

Before I did this activity, my mentor Mdm Ann Eastlake ask me about what

programme or activity that I can do to upgrade the standard of English language in my

school. So, Im thinking about an activity which can involve all teachers, parents and

pupils. What come into my mind, is doing a performance which I think most pupils

will enjoy. I decided to do a unique activity that is, the KadazanDusun English

    performance.

The first step I did was a panel meeting with my colleagues and discuss to them

about the programme that I have planned. The second step was asking all pupils to

collect Sabah folk tales or Sabah traditional tales from their family and relatives andgetting the pupils to translate them into English. The third step was the selection of

the best stories. All English teachers work together to select the best stories and get

the pupils to practice them. The fourth step was, I go and meet our Headmaster to

discuss about the programme, date, venue and funding. The fifth step was holding a

staff meeting and discuss about the programme and also delegate tasks to other

teachers. Lastly, we do rehearsals, decorate the hall and prepare all things for the big

day. On that day, all teachers, invited guests and pupils will be wearing their

    KadazanDusun outfit.

Im really glad that the activity goes well. The feedback that I get from the

mentors from British Council are very positive. Our Head of the Language

Department in Tambunan, Madam Laineh Ebit, also praise our effort and says that the

event should be held every year. My Headmaster, Mr Jemial Guhak, congratulate the

organizing committee for our roles and effort in making this programme a success and

he also encourage the pupils to take part in any English activity. The pupils of SRK St

Theresa says that they enjoyed the activity and most of all they like to wear the

    KadazanDusun outfit.

As an English teacher, a head of the English panel and a mother of four

children, I faced many challenges in my life. I have to divide work and family. This is

a big challenge for me. But whatever I do I have to think positively so that my task as

a mother and a teacher will be fair for my family and also my pupils. The

KadazanDusun English Performance that I have planned for my school is already

success and this benefits the pupils. All pupils involved in the performance are more

confidence in speaking English Language and the year six pupils who are involve in

the activity passed their UPSR examination with good marks. Thank you to my

Headmaster, all teachers in SRK St Theresa Tambunan. Im glad that we had work as

a team. Lastly but not least, I would like to convey my heartiest gratitude to my

Mentor, Madam Ann Eastlake for guiding me all this time. She has contributed ideas

to ensure the success of the KadazanDusun English performance in SRK St Theresa

    Tambunan, Sabah.
