“Health is wealth” as we have heard from our childhood. Are we really concern about our health, until we land up in hospital? The Answer is- NO

What do we see in health systems today? High tech facility providing hospitals. High technology for surgeries? Every day a new higher antibiotic in the market (this is having more ill effect on body than disease itself) And we still pay lot of money for medicines and hospital facilities.

Why ? ? ?

Page 12: Efl(new)

E F L H E A L T H C A R E :

Can a common man afford this? The Answer is- NO

But the fact is, most of us believe that: All the hi-tech facilities, Anti-biotics, surgeries can only save our lives and make us cure Spending lot of many is the only way to heal

Why are we all following the same thought??We need a change here..

Of course, there are some acute conditions where modern medicine is the only answer. But we need to understand that, this is not the only choice we have.

At the same time, giving symptomatic treatment has become a trend. This is a cycle in which patient is taking medicines after medicines to damage their body organs. This is the miserable condition of our society.

The aim of Ayurveda is- rejuvenation and then curing health problem. It means that one should try to maintain the good health of his own, so that chances of diseases are less.

This can be achieved by keeping body & mind free from stress and strain with the help of Ayurvedic Panchkarma therapy, Yoga, Meditation and Diet.

The main reason of physical and mental strain and stress is today’s lifestyle. To keep our body and mind healthy, we have to be with nature, to follow daily routine and seasonal- routine, which is called Dinacharya and Rutucharya respectively with practical aspect.

At the same time we should live in close contact with nature, if that is not possible then to be with nature as and when you get time. It is very helpful for one’s health.

Human body is an enigma. No matter what ailment one is suffering from, the body can yet activate its inherent curative powers. The basic approach is known as ‘Rejuvenation’. The Aim of Ayurveda is “Swasthasya Swasthya Rakshanam” i.e. prevention is better than cure.

The Ancient Science of Ayurveda throws enough light on various forms of refreshing the total body. It recommends massage therapy. Massage therapy is considered to enhance total health and improve performance of any person. This therapy is based on Ayurvedic Panchkarma theory, where Ayurveda has really become a part of their life.

All this is now available at ‘EFL Health Care’, Thane.

CONCEPT OF RUTUCHARYA

Introduction:‘Rutu’ means the movement of time as a seasonal change. The ‘hu’(light)-‘man’ (individuated mind) is considered to be a miniature universe. Adam stands for atom, the primordial matter. The movement of the time combines with light to move through cyclical polarities of day and night, youth and old age, digestion and assimilation and inhalation and exhalation, among many other polarities of this creation. Movements of the respirations and heartbeats are expressed within the boundaries of time and space.‘Turiya’ or the state of transcended awareness, is still and without movement, but other states of awareness, such as waking and sleeping, are subject to movement and therefore to change. As such they are considered ‘kura’ or perishable. Love is said to be imperishable, constant and still. “Be still, and know that I am God.” Change has functional relationship with changelessness.Seasonal cycles relate to the earth’s axis and are governed by the laws of cosmic ‘prana’ and ‘apana’ (involution and evolution) respectively. Solstice is a mid-point of expansion and contraction of the cosmic, pranic inhalation and exhalation.Time brings changes in the ‘guna’s’ or primordial qualities, and in the ‘dosha’s’ or psycho-biological humors. Seasonal changes influence all living organisms. The normal health of the seasons can be maintained by seasonal rituals and celebrations, which help to uplift group consciousness and bring attunement with cosmic consciousness.Space and earth elements are considered to be passive, while air and fire elements are considered active. Water can be active, passive or neutral, depending on its container, one of which can be wind. ‘Sama Rutu’ or balanced seasons and global health are supported when global prayer services and medicinal peace gatherings help support psychological wellness of the creation. Outer change is due to inner change. Ayurveda is the journey to the inner self, through time and space.‘Rutu Sandhi’, or seasonal junctions are times of change and are therefore considered to be ‘dangerous’, in the same way that an intersection is deemed dangerous – more caution is advised. Cleansing rituals are favored at the change of season because cleansing and rejuvenation bring change. This is why caution is exercised in ‘Panchakarma’, the ancient Ayurvedic medical science of cleansing and rejuvenation, and why it is suggested that only seasoned, senior practitioners supervise panchakarma.

RITUCHARYAThe year according to Ayurveda is divided into two kaals: Aadaan kaal (Uttarayan) (Northeren Solastice) Visarga kaal (Dakshinayaan) (Southeren Solastice). This division is done according to the position of the sun. Aadaan means taking away and visarga means giving. In aadan kaal, the sun and wind are powerful. The sun takes away the strength of the people and the cooling qualities of the earth. It is the debialiting period. strength is weakened . In Visarga kaal , the sun releases the strength to the people. The moon is more powerful, the earth becomes cooled due to the clouds, rain and cold wind.A year consists of six ritus (seasons). Each ritu is two masas (months) long. Three ritus (one semester) form a kaal.

The six ritus and their properties can be summarized in the following table:Kaal (Semester) Ritu (Season) Maas (Month) Properties of the season

EFFECT OF FOOD ON TEMPARAMENT

Food you eat is sattvic, rajasic or tamasic according to its character and effect upon the body and the mind. One can find out the nature or temperament of a man from the nature of the food he prefers.

SATTVIC FOOD:

Sattvic food is always freshly cooked and simple, juicy. It is light, unctuous, nourishing, sweet and tasty. It increases the energy of the mind and produces cheerfulness, serenity and mental clarity. Sattvic food is highly conducive to good health.Milk, butter, ghee (clarified butter), fresh ripe fruits, almonds, dates, moong (green gram) sprouts, barley, wheat, cereals, tomatoes, parwar, torai, karela (names of Indian vegetable), plantains etc., are sattvic. The spices commonly used in sattvic cooking are turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, coriander, fennel (saunf) and cardamom.

The Sattvic personality:People who follow the sattvic way of eating are known to be clear-minded, balanced and spiritually aware. They usually avoid alcohol, stimulants like tea, coffee, tobacco and non-vegetarian food.

Page 32: Efl(new)

E F L H E A L T H C A R E :

RAJASIC FOOD:

This is food which is fresh but heavy. It includes non-vegetarian food like meat, fish, eggs and chicken, all whole pulses and dals (not sprouted), hot spices like chilies, pepper, and the vegetables including onion and garlic. The rajasic diet is also cooked fresh and is nutritious. It may contain a little more oil and spices compared to sattvic food. It benefits those who believe in action and aggression in a positive way such as business persons, politicians, and athletes.Rajasic food is bitter, sour, salty, pungent, hot and dry. Puri, kachori, pungent condiments, sweets, fried bread, curd, brinjal (egg plant), carrots, urad (black gram), onions, garlic, lemon, masur (red gram), tea, coffee, betel leaves, tobacco are rajasic articles of food.

The Rajasic personality:

These foods create sensuality, sexuality, greed, jealousy, anger, delusion, fantasies, egotism and irreligious feelings. They are interested in the four P’s – power, prestige, position and prosperity. But they are quite in control of their lives and aren’t obsessed by any of the above. They are go-getters and know how to enjoy of preparations to satisfy his palate. The palate remains unsatisfied until the stomach is completely filled with pungent things and till the tongue is burnt with chilies.

Page 33: Efl(new)

E F L H E A L T H C A R E :

TAMASIC FOOD:

This includes not so fresh, overcooked, stale and processed food, made from refined flour (maida). Pastries, pizzas, burgers, chocolates, soft drinks, rumali roti, naan, tea, coffee, tobacco, alcohol, canned and preserved foods like jams, pickles and fermented foods, sweets made from sugar, ice creams, puddings and most ‘fun foods’ are included in this list. All spicy, salty, sweet and fatty foods form part of the tamasic diet. Beef, fish, eggs, wine, garlic, onions and tobacco are tamasic foodstuffs.

The Tamasic personality:

Tamas brings about stagnation leading to degeneration of people’s health. Such individuals suffer from intense mood swings, insecurity, desires and cravings and are unable to deal with others in a balanced way. They have little regard for the welfare of others and tend to be very self-centered. They have problems of nervous system and heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, and chronic fatigue.Sattvic, rajasic and tamasic are more than just qualities in food – they are a way of life.

Blissful Food taking experience at EFL Health care:

We should take food or liquid diet in very comfortable and relaxed situation of body and mind, without worrying too much about etiquettes and manners

This is very basic requirement for food digestion and conversion into

nutrients.

Eating the food should be a slow process.

Completely chew the food before swallowing.

A little walk for a few minutes after taking food can help in better

digestion of the taken food.

Don’t exert body immediately after taking food. All this can be experienced at EFL

Panch-tattva Healing Concept:Both Ayurveda and Yoga are based on the principle of the 5 elements. These 5 elements are referred to as the panchamahabhutas in Ayurveda or the tattvas in yoga. Pancha literally means “five” and mahabhuta and tattva are Sanskrit words meaning “element” or “reality”.

What are the 5 elements? These 5 elements are responsible for the structure of the universe; they are the building blocks of the material world. Everything in the universe, animate and inanimate, is made up of the five mahabhutas. The five elements are: Aakash (ether), Vayu (air), Agni (fire), Jala (water) and Prithvi (earth). Each object and being in the universe contains a varying degree and combination of the 5 elements providing its unique features. The elements are not detected in their pure state. We perceive substances that possess many qualities, which come from a combination of more than one element. The density of the 5 elements increases from ether to air, to fire, to water, to earth. The elements originate from the subtle and all pervasive universal consciousness. Ether is the most subtle of the 5.

E F L H E A L T H C A R E :

Aakash (ether) is ever present; it is the space in which everything exists and acts. Aakash is fine, subtle, soft, light, porous and smooth in quality. In the body aakash is found where there is empty space such as in the tubes and channels (srotas) of the body. Such empty spaces are found in blood and lymph vessels, openings, pores and the intestinal tract. Aakash also contributes the sounds of the heart, lungs, intestines and swallowing.Aakash is space; all sound is transmitted through space and is related to the sense of hearing. The ear is the sense of organ of hearing and since sound is produced through means of the vocal cords and mouth these are considered to be the organ of action related to the sense of hearing. Vishuddha chakra is located in the area of the throat and is directly related to the ether element and the tanmatra of sound.

Vayu (air) is the gaseous form of matter. It is mobile, dynamic, light, cold, rough, fine, subtle, dry and exists without form. All empty spaces are filled with air. Air flows freely throughout the body, controls breathing, feeds the cells with oxygen and helps to give movement to biological functions.Air relates to the sense of touch, therefore skin is the related sense organ and the hand is the organ of action. The air element corresponds to anahata chakra, also called the heart chakra. Vayu is related with the actions of giving and receiving and is displayed in it’s correspondence with the hands and anahata chakra.

Agni (fire) is hot, sharp, subtle, fine, light, slightly sticky and radiant in quality. Agni is found in the heat and energy of the body. Fire exists in all metabolic processes and chemical reactions. Fire is the transformational force; it promotes appetite, digestion and metabolism converting food to energy, creates thought processes and bodily impulses. Agni is also responsible for providing luster, radiance and color for the body.

Jala (water) is liquid, sticky, cold, soft, compact, heavy and moist in quality. Water constitutes the liquids of the body and represents the force of cohesion, as well as the abilities to attract and to change that are associated with water. This element provides the bodily fluids such as urine, plasma, lymph and makes up most of our bodily weight. The bodily fluids move between the cells and through the vessels of the body carrying nutrients, wastes, antibodies and hormones.Water is related to the perception of taste and it’s sense organ is the tongue. The related sense organ is the genitals which are very closely linked in function to the tongue. Without water neither the tongue nor genitals can function properly. Svadhistana chakra is located in the area of the genitals and is attuned with the water energy.

Prithvi (earth) represents the solid state of matter. Earth is heavy, hard, stable, compact, rigid, unctuous and dense in quality. Bones, teeth, muscles, fat and the structure of the different organs are derived from the earth element.Earth is related to the sense of smell. The nose is the sense organ through which we perceive smell. The organ of action is the anus which allows us to excrete matter back to the earth. Muladhara chakra, also called the root chakra is located outside the body in the area of the perineum. The root chakra is our connection to the earth, giving us stability in the body and the mind.
