ExplanationExplanation

Web sites are found by their addresses on the World Wide Web. These addresses are known as URLs, or Uniform Resource Locators. Every web site has a URL, or Uniform Resource Locator, assigned to it so both searchers and Web servers can find them quickly and easily. (URL is also known as web address)

ExplanationExplanation

• The World Wide Web (abbreviated as WWW or W3 and commonly known as the Web) is a system of interlinked hypertext documents accessed via the Internet. With a web browser, one can view web pages that may contain text, images, videos, and other multimedia and navigate between them via hyperlinks.

• Using concepts from earlier hypertext systems, British engineer and computer scientist Sir Tim Berners-Lee, now Director of the World Wide Web Consortium(W3C), wrote a proposal in March 1989 for what would eventually become the World Wide Web.

ExplanationExplanation

• The domain name is the textual representation of the IP address, used to identify a specific Web page or pages, and comes after the "://". Or after the WWW

Page 11: EDTECH & CURDEV FINAL COACHING BY PROF RONNIE ESPERGAL PASIGUI

ExplanationExplanation

• HTTP" stands for Hypertext Transfer (or Transport) Protocol, and is the technology used to communicate between Web servers and the users who access their information. In some URLs, you might see "HTTPS", which stands for "Hyper Text Transfer Protocol", a secure technology developed to keep sensitive transactions and information safe online. This first part of the URL indicates what protocol the URL will be using in order to deliver the information from the server to the user, and is in front of the domain name, separated by the "://".

Page 12: EDTECH & CURDEV FINAL COACHING BY PROF RONNIE ESPERGAL PASIGUI

ExplanationExplanation

• forward slash, then file name: path or directory on the computer to this file; which in our case is "od/dailywebsearchtips/qt". Think of a file cabinet, with folders assigned to specific topics, projects, or information. name of file: name of file, usually ending in .html or .htm. The file name for this file is "dnt0526"; moving backwards through the URL we can deduce that the file lies in sub-directories called "qt", "dailywebsearchtips", and "od", is on the domain name "websearch.about.com", and is being delivered to us by the HTTP protocol.

ExplanationExplanation

• Inline linking (also known as hotlinking, leeching, piggy-backing, direct linking, offsite image grabs) is the use of a linked object, often an image, from one site by a web page belonging to a second site. The second site is said to have an inline link to the site where the object is located.

ExplanationExplanation

• A program that searches documents for specified keywords and returns a list of the documents where the keywords were found. Although search engine is really a general class of programs, the term is often used to specifically describe systems like Google,  Alta Vista and Excite that enable users to search for documents on the World Wide Web and USENET newsgroups.

• Typically, a search engine works by sending out a spider to fetch as many documents as possible. Another program, called an indexer, then reads these documents and creates an index based on the words contained in each document. Each search engine uses a proprietary algorithm to create its indices such that, ideally, only meaningful results are returned for each query

ExplanationExplanation

• To mark a document or a specific place in a document for later retrieval. Nearly all Web browsers support a bookmarking feature that lets you save the address (URL) of a Web page so that you can easily re-visit the page at a later time.

ExplanationExplanation

• Portable Document Format (PDF) is an open standard for document exchange. This file format created by Adobe Systems in 1993 is used for representing documents in a manner independent of application software, hardware, and operating systems. Each PDF file encapsulates a complete description of a fixed-layout flat document, including the text, fonts, graphics, and other information needed to display it.

Page 30: EDTECH & CURDEV FINAL COACHING BY PROF RONNIE ESPERGAL PASIGUI

ExplanationExplanation

• In computing, JPEG ( JOINT PHOTOGRAPHIC EXPERTS) is a commonly used method of lossy compression for digital photography (image). The degree of compression can be adjusted, allowing a selectable tradeoff between storage size and image quality. JPEG typically achieves 10:1 compression with little perceptible loss in image quality.

• JPEG compression is used in a number of image file formats. JPEG is the most common image format used by digital cameras and other photographic image capture devices; along with JPEG/JFIF, it is the most common format for storing and transmitting photographic images on the World Wide Web.[citation

needed] These format variations are often not distinguished, and are simply called JPEG.

Page 31: EDTECH & CURDEV FINAL COACHING BY PROF RONNIE ESPERGAL PASIGUI

ExplanationExplanation

• GIF (Graphics Interchange Format)• Pronounced jiff or giff (hard g) stands for graphics

interchange format, a bit-mapped graphics file format used by the World Wide Web, CompuServe and many BBSs.(Bulletin Board Systems) GIF supports color and various resolutions. It also includes data compression, but because it is limited to 256 colors, it is more effective for scanned images such as illustrations rather than color photos.

Page 32: EDTECH & CURDEV FINAL COACHING BY PROF RONNIE ESPERGAL PASIGUI

ExplanationExplanation

• BMP (bitmap)• BMP (short for bitmap) is a graphic format used internally

by the Microsoft Windows graphics subsystem, and used commonly as a simple graphics file format on that platform. BMP files are usually not compressed, so they are typically much larger than compressed image file formats such as JPEG or PNG. Despite its shortcomings, the simplicity of BMP and its widespread use in Microsoft Windows and elsewhere, as well as the fact that this format is well-documented and free of patents, makes it a very common format. As such, many image programs are likely to be able to read in BMP files.

Page 49: EDTECH & CURDEV FINAL COACHING BY PROF RONNIE ESPERGAL PASIGUI

ExplanationExplanation

• What is bilingual education? Bilingual education is a form of education in which information is presented to the students in two (or more) languages. Technically, any educational system that utilizes more than one language is bilingual. This means that many, if not most, school programs are bilingual, in at least a literal sense of the word. What differentiates various programs that are toted as ‘bilingual’ is the degree to which multiple languages are used.

Page 50: EDTECH & CURDEV FINAL COACHING BY PROF RONNIE ESPERGAL PASIGUI

ExplanationExplanation

• Bilingual education also refers to the practice of teaching non-English speaking children in their native language. Developed in the 1960's, such programs were intended to allow children to progress in subjects such as math, science and social studies while they learned English in a separate class. Bilingual education was meant as a transitional program, but students frequently linger in such programs for most of their school years.

Page 51: EDTECH & CURDEV FINAL COACHING BY PROF RONNIE ESPERGAL PASIGUI

ExplanationExplanation

• On the basis of this survey results, as well as the recommendations of the Soriano Committee and the National Board of Education and in consonance with the constitution of 1973, the Bilingual Education Policy was enunciated officially in Department Order No. 25, series 1974, on June 19, 1974 by the Secretary of Education and Culture, in order to develop a bilingual nation competent in the use of English and Pilipino. Bilingualism in the schools is defined operationally as the separate use of English and Pilipino as media of instruction in certain subject areas from Grade I to 4th year High School. The subject areas are divided into Pilipino Domain or Pilipino Block and English Domain or English Block.

ExplanationExplanation

• The Language provision in the 1987 Constitution of the Republic of the Philippines which are embodied in Article XIV, Sec. 6 and 7 provide the legal basis for the various language policies that are being implemented in the country. The ratification of the above- mentioned constitution resolved the issue on what the national language is, since the 1935 and 1973 Philippine Charters were not clear about this.
