TRANSCRIPT
DVD Digipak®CD packaging has become just as, if not more, important than the content on the CD itself. CD sales are on the decline, by as much as 20 % per annum,
mostly as a result of programs like ITunes and Spotify.CD manufacturers are having to become more innovative and spend more on their product build in order to tempt customers to buy a physical product rather
than download a file onto their hard disk. For commercial products, it follows that small producers in particular must
think beyond the jewel case.
Digipak is a registered trademark of the company AGI Media which is a
MeadWestvaco, Inc. resource. MeadWestvaco licensed the name and designs to
manufacturers around the world. Digipaks are one of the first alternatives to Jewel cases.
Digipaks typically consist of a gatefold or book-style paperboard or card stock outer, with one or more plastic trays capable of holding a CD or DVD attached to the inside. Manufacturers have tried to reduce environmental impact and improve functionality by introducing recycled components into the Digipaks.
Digipak-style cases grew in popularity among record labels and recording artists in the early
2000s.
