Below the Surface is a non-profit organization dedicated to the exploration of and education about the issues surrounding water.

The Driving Innovation Team aims to integrate the full spectrum of biofuels and renewable energies into the market through research, racing, demonstrations, and explorations.

Below the Surface promotes business solutions to environmental problems. ‘Be the Solution’ is our motto and we advocate for and promote opportunities to turn wastewater and runoff resources into profitable products.

Our team is showing how emitted CO2 and nutrient run-off can be used to produce renewable energy such as algae-based biofuel. We are testing the Hessgen Hydrogen System as a secondary fuel source to significantly reduce emissions, quantify emissions reductions and increase performance.

Driving Innovation is a proof-of-concept program to make renewable energy the norm with early adopters in the off-road and track racing communities. We strive to:

- Make entries, demonstrate new fuel technologies, and win races - Continually increase land-speed records in vehicles powered by renewable energy - Create specialized racing classes to give renewable energy a level playing field - Define low impact and sustainability standards with practical solutions for races - Provide compatibility and performance data to aid in technological breakthroughs
