Headmaster’s Welcome
On behalf of the Board of Governors and the entire Abbey community
I would like to welcome you all to this evening’s Prize Giving
Ceremony. Tonight is an important occasion when we honour the
achievements of our senior students over the last academic year.
I would like to begin with a special word of congratulations to the
students who we honour tonight by awarding GCSE certificates and
also students in the categories of Best in subject at GCSE and 9 grade
As or better. I also applaud the students in other year groups whose
academic performance in school or whose non academic
achievements have enriched the last school year.
I have great pleasure in welcoming back to his Alma Mater our
distinguished guest speaker Mr Gareth Brady. Gareth was a pupil in the
Abbey between 1984 and 1991and completed A levels in Physics,
Economics and Maths. He also gave great service to the school
through his contribution to the school golf team and as Head Boy in
1991. He has since gone on to lead a hugely successful and interesting
career in the field of Financial Services. We are honoured that he has
accepted our invitation to return to the Abbey tonight.
At the same time as congratulating our pupils, I would like to pay
particular tribute to you the parents for the work that you have done
over the years and in particular for the enthusiastic and continued
support that you offer the school.
Lastly, on behalf of myself and the Board of Governors I would like to
express our appreciation for the work of our dedicated staff who work
so enthusiastically with your sons in enhancing all aspects of their
education.
In conclusion, I hope that you all enjoy the presentations tonight and
I invite you to join us for light refreshments in the school canteen at
the end of the evening.
