Themed Special Feature Safety and Security
The Special Feature “Safety and Security”, held for the fi rst time as part of UGOL ROSSII & MINING 2010, promises to produce some interesting and innovative impulses for safety underground. In addition to classic invest-ment in mining infrastructure, safety and security rank increasingly high on the list of required investment. In underground coal mining methane is always critical. Therefore technologies for the early detection and management of explosive gases rank high on the agenda. Likewise, plants for using methane gas as a source of energy are gaining in importance in terms of energy effi ciency. Suppliers of the relevant know-how will therefore meet with an interested audience at this Special Show.
The focal themes of “Safety and Security” in detail:
Personal Protective Equipment for Miners
Respiratory protective equipment
Eye and ear protection
Protective helmets
Hand, arm, leg protection, protective shoes
High-visibility clothing, waterproof clothing
Explosion Protection, Fire Prevention, Environmental Protection
Stationary and hand-held gas measuring devices (methane, carbon monoxide, oxygen, nitrous fumes etc.)
Explosion-proof electro-technical and electronic equipment
Mine gas detection, mine gas removal by suction, mine gas processing
Spraying equipment for cutting winning machines and road headers
Dust extraction sets
Permitted explosives
Explosion barriers
General Safety at Mines
Strata control (scaling machines, roof bolting, support, shotcreting machines etc.)
Monitoring installations for machinery and equipment (conveyor belts, energy supply, main fan, etc.)
Fire detection systems
Fire extinguishing systems
Manual fi re extinguishers

Novokuznetsk was founded in 1618, and in the past centuries has expe-rienced an eventful history. The city fi rst gained importance 120 years ago when the fi rst mineral resources were found in the Kuzbass Area. During the time when Stalin was in power, the city was populated and consistently industrialized and expanded to this day into a leading mining centre in the middle of Siberia. Approx imately 600,000 people live in Novokuznetsk today. The city has its own airport and can be reached daily from Moscow by Siberian Airlines and Ural Airlines. The largest hotel in the centre is the Novokuznetskaya, which is near the central place of the city of Novokuznetsk.
Novokuznetsk is one of the largest industrial centres of Western Siberia, and the home of the two metallurgy state holding companies “West Siberian Metallurgical Combine” (ZSMK, ZapSib) and “Novokuznetsk Metallurgical Combine” (NKMK; in former times known as KMK). Both are amongst the largest steel pro-ducers in Russia. This is also the location of the Novokuznetsk alu-minium plant, the Novokuznetsk factory for ferrous alloys, several coal mines, the Kuznetsk Basin, machinery manufacturing companies, food-making factories and two combined heat and power stations.

regard put their faith in the knowl-edge and know-how of Western suppliers, making inquiries on-site about machinery, plants as well as consultation and service.
Consequently, for companies from the large mining technology sector, a fertile fi eld of new business poten-tial is offered at the UGOL ROSSII & MINING, one of the most important mining industry trade fairs for Russian industry, which will open its doors again in Novokuznetsk between 1st and 4th of June 2010.
Founded in 1992 as the “Coal of Russia” and organised in cooperation between Messe Düsseldorf GmbH and its Russian partner SAO Kuzbasskaya Yarmaka from 2000 on, this UGOL ROSSII & MINING trade fair has developed into a widely recognised forum, at which supply of and de-mand for high-performance mining technology can be optimally brought together.
The Best Prospects for the FutureThe industry exhibition in 2009 attracted more than 17,000 visitors
from all regions of the CIS and neigh-bouring states. The approximately 500 exhibitors from 19 countries were enthused by the high technical competence of the visitors and many
declared their intention to exhibit again in 2010 at this important indus-try exhibition in order to maintain contacts and cooperation with exist-ing customers and to fi nd potential new customers, especially in these times of economic crisis.
Globally operating companies for mining technology and raw materials exploitation will continue to have the best prospects for successful cooperation with the Russian mining sector as the companies’ decision-makers place their faith in the knowledge and service of foreign suppliers. For the upcoming event, renowned companies from Germany, Great Britain, Poland and the Czech Republic have already announced their participation. The Association of British Mining Equipment Compa-nies (ABMEC) will again be repre-sented with a collective exhibition
stand. Companies from the Saarland will also exhibit again with a collec-tive exhibition booth. The federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia is supporting the exhibition participa-tion of small and medium-sized businesses on the initiative of the Düsseldorf Chamber of Commerce and Industry with the KleingruppePlus (Small-Group Plus) promotional programme. Most mining suppliers from Germany, who are exhibiting at the UGOL ROSSII & MINING, are members of the German Mining-Equipment Association (VDMA).
This is reason enough to be at the UGOL ROSSII & MINING 2010. Once again, the venue of the 17th exhibition is the central square of the city of Novokuznetsk, near the Hotel Novokuznetskaya, which will provide suffi cient space for the ever increasing demand for exhibition space. In temporary state-of-the-art exhibition halls, we will design and organise an industry exhibition for you with professional infrastructure – from visitor promotion to the planning and construction of your exhibition stand – together with our long-term Russian partner Kuzbass Fair and our Russian subsidiary OOO Messe Düsseldorf Moscow.

T he government is already announcing the end of the
recession, after the economy again showed positive progress in the third quarter of this year. And President Medwedew is making his country take note of an innovation drive. Just as the crisis hit the raw materials suppliers the hardest, so are they now among the fi rst to benefi t from the economic recov-ery and the corresponding increase in demand for raw materials and energy carriers.
On Investment Course. As a result, the planners and doers of the primary sector are getting back to normal again. And the order of the day is large-scale infrastructure projects: Primarily the modernisation of existing raw material mines and fi elds and, consequently, the increase of productivity and sustainability, as well as the opening up of new mining areas and the extension of the manufacturing industry and the necessary modern logistics and transport systems by water and by rail. To give just one example of the upcoming, gigantic fi scal transfers – according to the plans of the Russian Energy Strategy – in the Republic of Sakha alone, in the region of 70 billion EUR have been earmarked for necessary in-vestments up until the year 2020.
On the High-Tech Track. The most important point of this Energy Strategy agenda is the in-crease in coal production from the current 320 million tonnes a year to 400-430 million tonnes by 2020. One of the most signifi cant centres of this course of expansion is the Kuznetsk Basin, where approxi-mately 60% of Russian coal is currently mined and where the UGOL ROSSII & MINING venue is located.
For this ambitious growth pro-gramme, by which the companies have not only set their sights on the more effi cient supply of exist-ing European consumers, but which is also focusing on expansion into the Asian market, state-of-the-art technology is above all required. The Russian companies in this
On the Upward Trend.
Russia is one of the most attractive and most growth-orientated national economies in the world. Even the global economic crisis has not been able to change that to any great degree. Despite the negative development in the second half of 2008, the gross domestic product still considerably showed single digit growth in the annual average.
