Police safeguarding the children of Wales through crime prevention education
TheAWSLCPisanexampleofPartnershipWorkingbetweentheWelshGovernmentandthefourWelsh Police Forces and consists of a series of Crime Prevention inputs / lesson deliveries andSupportiveSchoolPolicinginitiativesthataimto:
• educate children and youngpeople about theharm substancemisuse can cause to theirhealth,theirfamiliesandthewidercommunity
• promotetheprinciplesofpositivecitizenshipthroughthemediumofeducation• achieveareductioninthelevelsofcrimeanddisorderwithinouryoungcommunities.
FromSeptember2016theProgrammeconsistsofTheCriticalCore,TargetedDeliveryandSupportMenu as indicated below. All sessionswill continue to be delivered by pre-booked appointmentwithaSchoolCommunityPoliceOfficer(SCPO).As indicated above, SCPOs will also provide a variety of Supportive School Policing (SSP) andsafeguardingactivities.ThesewillincluderesolvingincidentsusingtheSchoolCrimeBeatPolicyandwhere applicable, Restorative Approaches. SCPOs are also able to deliver a variety of ageappropriateschoolassemblies.Itisanticipatedthatanenhancedsafeguardingrolewillfurtherdeveloplinksbetweenthelocalandschoolcommunitiesaswellaspartneragenciese.g.YouthOffendingService,SafeguardingServicesetc.The AWSLCP is fully supported by a dedicated website – www.schoolbeat.org which containsfurtherinformationandguidanceforteachers,pupilsandparents.
