Did you…?

In this teaching activity, students practice asking and answering past simple yes/no questions. Before class, make one copy of the worksheet for each student. Procedure Hand out a copy of the worksheet to each student. Working alone, students write down the past simple yes/no questions that they need to ask in the activity. After they have finished, check the questions with the students. Next, tell the class that they must find one student who did each activity on the worksheet and write his or her name at the start of the sentence. Students then move round the room asking each other the questions. Students answer the questions using the correct structure. When a student gets a positive answer, he or she writes the student’s name at the start of the sentence. The student then moves on and talks to another student. Students need to collect one name for each activity, but they can collect more names if possible. Encourage students to ask a follow-up question for each activity before moving on to someone else. Finally, students share the most interesting things they found out with the whole class.
