Lenten practices here at St. Mary: There are Stations of the Cross every Friday at 11:30. We will be having Exposition of the Blessed Sacra-ment every Friday from 12:30 to 3:00 p.m. Sunday evening there will be Evening prayer at 5:00 p.m. Lenten booklets are available at the church entrances. We will continue our annual Lenten Collections on Wednesdays and Fridays in Lent, for local charities. The Wild Goose Series on the Holy Spirit will be held on Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. All are wel-come. A study guide that accompanies the series is available for $10. Ash Wednesday The Mass schedule for Ash Wednesday is 8:00 a.m., 12:05 p.m. 5:15 p.m. Ash Wednesday is a day of fast and abstinence. (Sorry Valentines day). Question: In general for these weekday holy days would you attend a Mass at 7:00 p.m. on either the Vigil or the day itself? Just want to know how to serve you. Send me an email: [email protected]. Lent One aspect of Lent is about being brought deeper into the life of the Trinity through conversion. Our sinful-ness, while sometimes painful and even humiliating, is nothing we should be afraid to look at and feel. Jesus died out of love for us, because we are sinners in order that we might be forgiven and set free. The more will-ing we are to see ourselves as sinful and broken, the more God is able to heal and set us free. Being healed and our sinfulness transformed is not always an easy or quick process. Some sin and wounds can take a long time to break down. The good news is that all sin ex-posed to Jesus will ultimately be defeated. In the light of God all wounds and things will be restored and healed. One of our main tasks as Christians is to perse-vere in seeking forgiveness and healing. We need to continue to give God space and time to do His good work in us. What to do for a Lenten penance? This season instead of starting with asking what to give up or what am I going to do, how about we ask where does Jesus want to bring victory? In general we have much more suc-cess in the spiritual life when we focus on the good God is growing versus simply avoiding evil. So the first step is to ask God, in what area he wants to bring growth, victory, healing, etc? After the Lord indicates to us which area, the next question to ask is how He wants to bring the victory, growth, healing, etc. The how is often where our Lenten Penance comes in. Prayer? Fasting? Service? Almsgiving? Practicing a new mindset? There are a lot of options. The Lenten Penance/Prayer can take on a clearer focus as to why we are being called to do it when we know where it will lead us. How does God want to restore us (individually and as a Church) and bring us deeper into His divine life? I will look forward to seeing the answers to that in the testimony of our lives when Easter arrives. PRAISE AND ADORATION
Starting on Wednesday, February 21, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. we will be having Exposition of the Blessed Sacra-ment and praise music weekly in the Crypt chapel. Come and spend some time with the Lord. All ages are welcome.
POTLUCKS BEGIN AGAIN! Wednesday night Potlucks resume on Wednesday, February 21 at 6:00 pm in the parish hall. If you've been looking forward to returning, we look forward to seeing you again. If you've never been, give us a try. Bring a dish to pass (purchased or home made), your own plate and plastic ware if possible, and a $2.00 donation for the main dish. Our cook teams provide the main dish and beverages and you bring side dishes or desserts. We have single people, couples and families who attend. With just one dish from you, you'll partake in a nice variety of food and the company is awesome! The last Wednesday of the month, we have game night so you're welcome to hang around after dinner and play board games or card games with us.
