was so pleased to see and hear this year’s “National
Mustang Day” (NMD) getting the recognition it
deserves by the media, honoring the iconic Muscle
Car's 54th
birthday. That day was celebrated by clubs and
enthusiasts worldwide. Channel 7 (ABC/NOW-WXYZ),
Fox & Friends, Internet, Sirus radio announcer “Flash”
with 60's on 6, newspapers, and Ford all mentioned the
Mustang Birthday and offered some trivia / history too. So,
I thank you club members for the great turnout, despite the
balmy 30 degree temp. and snow flurries. We had approx.
100+ members and 50+ Mustangs to celebrate National
Mustang Day. You even had the pleasure of seeing my
GT500 (George Tomas) which I had had to dust off.
I felt a lot of pride in our VFW meeting hall. In
addition to, the complementary pizza (we ate 28 pizza pies
and we will need more next year), soft drinks, National
Mustang Day Birthday Cake, and cookies, all members
received a: commemorative NMD window decal, 25th
anniversary glass and coaster set with NMD logo.
The merchandise table also launched for purchase
(at a slightly reduced cost) the new 25th anniversary club
logo short and long sleeve T shirts, crew and hoodie
sweatshirts, and a tool / product pouch organizer. It was a
pleasure meeting new members and hearing about their
pride and joys. Colleen Addeo was our big NMD banner
winner. Everyone that attended helped out with setting up
and cleaning up. Joanne and I brought a Jeep full of your
generously donated
nonperishable non expired food
items to the “The Interfaith Food
Pantry”, in Morris Plains. Our
club donated 472 pounds of food.
Please see pictures in this
newsletter.
Sunday, April 22,
our “Spring Round Up Open Car
Show” at the Nielsen
Dodge/Jeep/Ram Dealer-
ship, 175 Route 10, East
Hanover, from 9:00 am -2:00pm. Tom Addeo and I had not
one phone conversation concerning rain or snow, but we
learned about food vendors (permits) and food serving in
East Hanover. One of our own GSRMC Members, Bill
McCombs came to our rescue and provided our show with
a food vendor (thank you Bill M ) .
The car show committees did an awesome job. All
in all, a great day, a successful club event. From
Registration, Parking, Vote Tabulation, Merchandising
Table, 50/50, and our NEW car show software. Again,
thank you all for making this car show very successful.
Over 225+ vehicles, 50+ club members, spectators too, Not
bad for our 1st event at the Nielsen Dodge/Jeep/Ram
location. So many volunteers too. The Club will donate
some of the proceeds collected to the car show charity,
MDA. Again, our success is due to your participation and
generosity that we so greatly appreciate. Also, please check
out our website at www.gsrmc.org for the car show
pictures.
On Wednesday, May 16,

LET’S EAT
The May 16th meeting will be
our Spring Potluck Supper and it will be our first Meeting
Cruise Night of the season. Everybody knows that we as a
club like to eat, so the Spring Pot Luck Supper is one of our
most popular meetings. Members are asked to bring a salad,
appetizer, side dish or entree, while the club will supply the
soft drinks and desserts. Now that the weather is getting nicer
and the days are getting longer, it is also time for our Meeting
Cruise Nights. We encourage all members attending the May
meeting to bring their ponies with them. Come out early to
check out the cars. Cruising starts at 7:00 and the food will be
served at 7:45.
3RD ANNUAL. GSRMC
MINI-GOLF TOURNEY
This year’s event will take place on Saturday, June 30th
. The
club will once again meet at the Golf Zone, at 239 Route 206,
in Flanders, by 2:00 P.M. for 18 holes of mini-golf. After a
couple of hours of showing off our putting prowess, we will
head over for dinner at a yet to be determined local eatery.
We have reserved the course from 2:00 – 4:00 PM so
if attending, please be prompt. We will collect fees the day of
the event. If we arrive as a group by 2:00 PM, then we can get
the group rates of $5 or $6, depending upon how many of us
are golfing. The Golf Zone also has a 36 hole mini course for
the brave, and talented. Look for more details at the meeting
and in the next newsletter.
WE LOVE A
PARADE(S)
Parades are a fun way to show off
your car and we hope many of you will participate in one or
all of the them that we have coming up. Although it doesn't
matter what year or body style Mustang you have, we’d really
like to see a diverse group, including a good turnout of first
generation cars.
Memorial Day: First up is the Dover Memorial Day Parade
on May 28th. Details will be available at the May meeting or
contact Dale F. at 201.306.8127 or [email protected]. Also
on May 28th
, is the Fairlawn Memorial Day Parade. We will
be meeting at the Panera Bread in the Kohl’s shopping center
(165 Rt. 4 W, Paramus). We will need to leave there at 8:30
am for the brief ride to the
parade staging area. Contact
Joe D, [email protected],
for more info.
Independence Day: We have been invited back to
the Independence Day parades in Maywood and
Ridgefield Park. Although they are both on July
4th, there is enough time between parades so
those who wish can participate in both. We will be
getting paid by both towns for participating, so
we’d like to have a good turnout at both. We need
to line up for the Maywood parade at 8:30am in the parking
lot of Myron Manufacturing on Maywood Ave. After a brief
pit stop, we will cruise over to Ridgefield Park for their
parade’s starting time of 11:20am. They are looking for 2-3
convertibles to carry honor students, if interested, please see
Mike D or contact him at [email protected]
Keep in mind that these towns start closing down
streets early near the parade route.
FREE ICE CREAM
Who doesn’t like that? We will be holding our annual Ice
Cream Social at the June 20th
meeting. Everybody loves ice
cream so this is always a crowded meeting. There will be
different flavors of ice cream along with all the fixings to
make your own personalized treat. So bring the whole family
for a really cool time. We will also be having another Meeting
Cruise Night. We encourage all members attending the June
meeting to bring their ponies with them. Come out early to see
what everybody’s driving, just don’t drip ice cream on the
cars. Cruising starts at 7:00pm and the ice cream will be
served around 7:45pm.
SHOW REGISTRATION
DISCOUNT
One of the perks of being a GSRMC
member is that you get to register for
any or all of our 2018 shows for only
$5. This discount only applies to
vehicles preregistered by the deadline. This special rate is not
printed on the flyer so it is up to you to register at the $5 rate

together at the cruise night. All of the CCNs will be open to
all years of Mustangs.

NATIONAL MUSTANG DAY &
GSRMC 25TH
ANNIVERSARY
CLEBRATION
his is the third year that the club has been celebrating
National Mustang Day on the Mustang’s birthday,
April 17th
. The first two years, the weather was about
as good as you could want for mid-April or any time of year
for that matter. Sunny and 70’s plus tempertures. So when the
forecast called for below average tempertures and cloudy
skies, it didn’t look good for our scheduled party. Then when
some areas saw snow flurries during the day, we had second
thoughts about not using our rain date of the following night.
Mustangers are a hearty bunch however, and over 45
ponies of all years, colors & body styles filled the lot of the
Whippany VFW hall. Then when the free pizza came, the hall
became filled with over 100 members, former members &
guests. After the feeding frenzy had ended, GSRMC glasses
& National Mustang Day coasters & decals were given away
to those in attendance. We also debuted our new 25th
anniversary apparel which caused quite a stir.
When we finally got to the meeting, the following
members were recognized for being at the very first GSRMC
meeting back in 1993; Rich Calabro, Jim Cogan, Mike &
Louise DeLiberto, Ken & Maryann Olsen and Brenda
Zimmerman. At the end of the evening, over 200 lbs of food
that was donated was packed into the Chernack’s car for
delivery to the Interfaith Food Pantry in Morris Plains.
All in all, a great night was had by everyone present.

AUDIO ENGINEERS TAP INTO OUR
ANCESTRAL DNA TO ENHANCE OUR
EMOTIONAL CONNECTIONS TO
PRODUCTS
The next time you jump at the sound of thunder or feel an
adrenaline rush when you hear the new active valve
performance exhaust on the 2019 EcoBoost®-equipped
Mustang, thank your prehistoric ancestors.
It’s called an autonomic response, and it traces back
to ancient humans who successfully learned to react quickly to
loud and powerful sounds, like the roar of a lion or the crash
of a tree. Over time, this fight-or-flight response to avoid
danger was passed along in our DNA and hardwired into our
minds and bodies.
Today, modern sound engineers tap into those very
same concepts when they create sounds for everything from
movies and music, to cars and cellphones – and even
appliances.
So that familiar “ta-da” chime your smartphone emits
isn’t by friendly accident; it’s carefully designed to be pleasant
and happy, according to Marpurg’s theory.
In Dearborn, Michigan, audio designers of another
sort create sounds that tap into our desire for power and thrills.
They are engineers at Ford Motor Company, designing
acoustic exhaust sounds that excite the senses and deliver a
note of performance.
These automotive sound engineers rely on
computational analysis to design, for example, a computer-
controlled active exhaust system that opens valves – much like
a saxophone or a large pipe organ – to change the sound of the
car based on the mood of the driver.
Ayesh breaks it down using a simple analogy – a
guitar. “Strum a chord on an acoustic guitar, and you get a
clean, simple sound wave – that’s your quiet Brahms’ Lullaby
kind of mood,” he said. “Plug that guitar into an amp and
crank it up to 11, and that’s your aggressive, crackling sound
that really rocks your soul. We call that track mode.”
Performance comes in all sizes. When you step on
the gas of Ayesh’s test car – a 310-horsepower EcoBoost
Mustang – the throaty rumble of the exhaust makes the hair on
the back of your neck stand up, just as it might on the larger-
engine Mustang GT and Shelby GT350 models.
Click a switch on the center console, and the sound
instantly changes to match your mood – normal, louder and
more aggressive sport and track settings, as well as a quiet
mode, when all you want is to just keep the peace.
“When I pick up my kids from school, they want to
hear that growling rev of the engine,” said Ayesh, “but my
wife and neighbors, not so much. So I can select the quieter
‘good neighbor’ mode, and keep them happy, too.”
MUSTANG COBRA JET CELEBRATES
50TH ANNIVERSARY WITH QUICKEST
STRAIGHT-LINE STALLION YET
Fifty years ago, the Ford Mustang Cobra Jet took to the
staging lanes at drag strips everywhere – and along with the
resulting wins, a legend was born. Now comes the return of
the Mustang Cobra Jet drag strip race car by Ford
Performance – targeted to be the most powerful and quickest
version from the factory yet, capable of running the quarter-
mile in the mid-8-second range while topping 150 mph.
“From the very first Mustang Cobra Jets dominating
the 1968 NHRA Winternationals to our modern-day Cobra Jet
racers, the Ford Performance Parts team continues to build the
Cobra Jet brand based on its success at the track over five
decades,” said Eric Cin, global director, Ford Performance
Parts. “That, in turn, has inspired generations of Mustang fans
to create their own performance machines for the street.”
Engineered by Ford Performance Parts, the purpose-
built drag racer developed on the 2018 Ford Mustang platform
is limited to 68 non-VIN production cars. It includes a
supercharged 5.2-liter Coyote V8 and unique four-link rear
suspension, along with a Ford 9-inch solid rear axle from
Strange Engineering. Race add-ons include NHRA-certified
roll cage, Racetech FIA seats, and a drag race-specific coil-
over suspension with specially designed Weld Racing wheels
with 50th anniversary badging.
The result is a turnkey racer that showcases many
performance add-ons available from the Ford Performance
Parts catalog for Mustang dating back to the original 1968
Cobra Jet. Offered in either Race Red or Oxford White, the
2018 Mustang Cobra Jet features an available commemorative
50th anniversary graphics package and anniversary badging.
