SIDNEY LEWIS
Born in London, March 24th 1903.
A 13 year old boy who ran away to join the front line in the Great War.
Recognised as Britain’s youngest soldier in the East Surrey regiment in 1915.
Sidney managed to join the army because of his physique of an older man and tricked enlisting officers into let it him sign up.
Fought in the trenches at the Somme battle in France by the age of 13.
Until his mother sent his birth certificate to the War Office so he could be sent home.

At the time the Great War had begun almost everyone wanted to fight for their country because of Nacionalism, but they had no idea of what it was to participate in a war, for example, the life in the trenches.
