MISSION STATEMENT OF THE PARISH OF ST. ANTHONY We are a Catholic community of faith in the Jesuit tradition gathered around Jesus Christ and centered in the Eucharist.
In a diverse and changing world we struggle to grow in our relationship with God and with one another. Through our worship, our ministries and our promotion of peace and justice, we walk
with Jesus of the Gospel who reveals God’s love for all.

ST. ANTHONY’S PRAYER CONNECTION MINISTRY
Receive the Power of Prayer Some time ago, a number of parishioners came together to form the Prayer Connection Ministry. Our members pray at home for the needs and intentions of other members of our St. Anthony Community. If you are in need of the power of prayer, we invite you to write out your petitions and drop them into the wooden box marked “Prayer Petitions,” which is located on the table at the right side of the church near the doors. These petitions are collected, printed and mailed to the Prayer Connection Ministers each month. Your needs will be remembered and lifted up in prayer by each minister.

How I fell in love with being an altar server at my church. By Rose Smyth L.I. Newsday Kidsday Reporter February 2, 2018 As I sit and wait, thousands of thoughts are running through my mind. Where is everyone? What if I have to do this all by myself? Will I remember my cues? That was how I felt on my first day of altar serving at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church in Commack. I was so nervous that day for almost no reason, and little did I know I would fall in love with being up on the altar. I am now a senior altar server at my church. Altar serving is one of my favorite things to do, and not only is it fun, but it also brings me closer to my faith. Almost every Sunday I am assigned to a Mass, where I help the priest with two other servers and do things such as carry the cross, hold the Roman Missal, or set the altar. Altar serving is a way to help your community while making friends you’ll have for a lifetime. I’ve also gotten to experience masses in a completely different way, and I have become more interested in my faith. By attending Mass and serving I can stay connected with my faith, and it makes learning more about my religion more pleasurable. Masses are brought to life when you are a part of it. Many families are very busy, running from a baseball game to a piano lesson, but by adding in altar serving to the mix, you can make sure that your faith doesn’t get lost in your life. I’m also looking forward to becoming a sacristan one day, the person who prepares the altar, church and chapel for celebration of Mass and other services, and teaching new kids to become altar servers and to care about their faith.
#####
We welcome and need new members. By participating as Altar Servers at St. Anthony’s, young people contribute to the important moments and events during the Parish year. At top: Christmas Midnight Mass. Left to right, below: the annual St. Anthony’s Feast
Procession; Masses at major feasts and solemnities, and very special occasions such as the first Mass of Fr. Richard Nichols, SJ; the Easter Vigil Mass at which new adult Catholics are baptized, confirmed and welcomed into our faith community.

THE WEEK IN CYO BASKETBALL As we ended the holiday lay-off, our teams returned to action with a series of exciting games as the girls squads wrapped-up their regular seasons with a series of high notes for the program. We now are entering the heart of the boys’ season and, for our girls’ teams, the start of a few potential play-off runs in their divisions.
GIRLS TEAMS Wrapping up the regular season with
a ton of exciting games! We started off the weekend with a thrilling game from Coach Pitta’s girls that came down to the last seconds. They fell short ultimately by just 2-points to St. William, but the season was a phenomenal one for the girls; many of whom will be trying out and playing for their middle school team. A full season under Coach Pitta will do them a world of good for preparation!
5th grade girls, under Coach Murray, came out hot and stayed hot the whole game this weekend. They won their final game 16-8 over St. William the Abbot. A major highlight was 6 of the 7 girls who played were able to notch points to help them pull ahead and stay ahead. It was beyond exciting. Sonia Kaplan, Siobhan Murray, Joanna Byrne, Gianna Visone and Ella Hickey all had one basket each while Rogan Costello led the team with 6 points. Gianna & Ella put together a string of steals, too many steals to count actually, as it looked like they were reading the other team’s mind on defense! The Christmas break served them well; this is the best they’ve played as a team all season!! It was thrilling to end with a big win and underscores their great progress as a team.
Coach Johnson’s team closed out an exciting week with a final second victory against St. Raymond’s. They won in the final seconds by 2 points. It was a fitting end to their regular season which has been highlighted by tremendous team effort across the board each weekend. They have had a great season and are in the playoff hunt; as they wait for the results of all teams to come in from the weekend.
BOYS TEAMS Making strong statements in
every game! Coach Conry's 8th grade boys played their 5th game of the season against St. Anne's of Garden City. At the storied Chaminade High School gym, the boys played strong from start to finish of the game and secured a 60-35 win. Tyler Picciano got the team cooking with an early 3-pointer; his offensive prowess proved to be contagious with 8 of the 10 boys scoring in the game. Christian Modzelewski and Jake Barna had breakout games, their best of the season. It was a full team win and improved the team's undefeated record to 5-0 for the season.
Coach Fucci’s 7th grade boys pulled a tough draw this weekend, playing the first-place team, and put a solid game together after a very slow start. Franco Visone, Derek Gromling, Zack Minsky and Evan Minsky led the comeback efforts and
made the game very close down the stretch, but it was just not enough to overcome the slow start. Leander Fucci, Ray Cenci, Gerard O’Grady and Connor Jaffe hunkered down the defensive side of the comeback efforts to slow down the opposing team. This was one of the best games of the season to watch and their rebounding and steals led to an exciting match!
The 4th grade boys, under the mother-daughter pairing of Coaches Tobin, played aggressive & smart basketball in a tough loss to OLP. Lucas Argento & Shaun McCullough played tight defense & had many key re-bounds. Dylan Langevin was high scorer with
6 points. Anthony Genna played well & scored 3 points on his birthday! This is a team of mostly first-time players and their pro-gress has been astounding all season!
This has been a great season for the program and each week we’ve watched the teams, both boys and girls, get better and better as they learn more and more what it takes to be fine youth athletes. Our players are learning great lessons that will take them through life: competing grit, fairness, teamwork, hustle, managing losses and wins and giving all your effort to a goal that you can visualize. We are looking forward to a great playoff run, to the continuation of the boys seasons and the start of high school play this weekend!
