The Tippecanoe High School Gymnasium To Be –
“The Pat Wampler Gymnasium!” Pat Wampler will be recognized for her service and support of the Tipp City EVSD by
naming the high school gym the “Pat Wampler Gymnasium”. We certainly hope that the
entire community will come out and help us thank Pat Wampler for all that she has done
for our students, schools, and community! The first 1,000 people in the gym will receive
a special commemorative spirit towel to wave and show your support for Pat Wampler
and our Red Devils!!!
Murray and Wharton Honored for Competing at State! Fall sports participants Lindsey Murray and Sam
Wharton were recognized during halftime at the
February 3rd
Boys Varsity Basketball game for
competing at the State level. Murray placed 10th
at the Girls State Golf tournament and Wharton
was the State Runner Up at the Boys Cross-
Country Meet. Congratulations for a great
performance!
Wray in Hall of Fame! High School Principal, Chuck Wray, and former Tippecanoe Wrestling
Coach was inducted into the Greater Miami Valley Wrestling Association
Hall of Fame at the GMVWA Holiday Tournament in December at the
Nutter Center. Mr. Wray was honored during halftime at the Feb. 3rd

Varsity Basketball game for his accomplishments.
Mr. Shomper Donates Goofy Challenge Check!
Athletic Director, Matt Shomper raised money for the Tippecanoe Athletic Boosters by
running the Goofy Marathon in January. He raised $2300 by running 42.4 miles! Mr.
Shomper presented the check during halftime at the February 3rd
Boys Varsity Basketball
game.
Niswonger to Play Soccer at
Cincinnati State! Tippecanoe Athletics and Tippecanoe Boys Soccer
are very proud to announce the college signing of
senior Logan Niswonger. Logan signed his letter of
intent, Saturday, February 4th, 2012 to continue his
soccer career at Cincinnati State in Cincinnati.

Brushing and Flossing Taught at Nevin Coppock!
Dental hygienists from Dr. Volcke’s Dental office in Vandalia came to Nevin Coppock Elementary and talked to
the first graders about brushing, flossing and healthy food choices.

Nevin Coppock hosts January Ringmaster Breakfast!
Each month, Nevin Coppock teachers choose two students who are giving their Best Performance every day!
They base that on Reliability, Responsibility, and Respect. Those students are treated to breakfast from the

Alex King Advances to Regionals L.T. Ball 4
th grader, Alex King made the most free throws last weekend at the Knight of
Columbus District Free Throw Contest in Troy! The next step in the competition is the
Regional Contest at Lehman Catholic in Sidney.
It was a BLAST!!!....The BLIZZARD BLAST!
Last Saturday night was the annual Blizzard Blast at L.T. Ball.

High School Students Help with Math Counts!
Math Counts has
been made
possible by the
generous Tipp
Foundation and
the Tipp
Educational
Endowment grant
money received to
pilot this math
tutoring program. The program targets LT Ball students, nominated by classroom teachers, who would benefit
from additional math support. Tutoring is provided by Math Honors students from Tippecanoe High School. The
program meets 2 days a week for an hour after school. The tutor/student ratio is ½, one tutor working with 2
students. The program design concentrates on the application of math concepts in the real world in addition to
drill/skill work.

TMS Power-of-the-Pen Teams Advance to Regional
Tournament!
On Saturday, February 4, the 7th and 8
th
grade Power-of-the-Pen teams competed in
their district tournament at Botkins Local
Schools. Power of the Pen is a competitive
writing team that attends tournaments and is
judged on their creativity and uniqueness of
writing.
The 8th grade team placed 1
st out of 18
schools! Out of about 100 writers for the 8th
grade, Alisha Bhaqwat received 1st place,
Jesse Hemmelgarn received 3rd
place, Paige
Phillips received 4h place, Emily Doll placed
5th, and Emily Gootzeit placed 14
th. Alisha
Bhaqwat also received the award “Best of Round” on two of the three prompts she wrote.
For the 7th grade team, Mary Kate Lee received 11
th place. Those that placed within the top 15 are guaranteed to
go on to the Regional Tournament being held on Saturday, March 10th at Sidney Middle School. About half of the
writers that competed on Saturday will go on to the Regional Tournament. Those results will be sent out soon.
The 7th grade Power-of-the-Pen team is coached by Amy Armentrout, and the 8
th grade team is coached by
Bridget Hughes.
Tippecanoe Middle School Free
Throwers won AGAIN!
Sam Kronour, Sammie Rowland, Aaron Hughes and
Connor Case won the District Free Throw Contest and
will advance to the Regional Free Throw Contest at
Lehman Catholic in Sidney. Contestants had to get the
most out of 15 free throws.

in Boys’ Basketball, Cheerleading, Devilaires and Winter Percussion. Come early to help us honor our seniors and

Halftime entertainment will feature performances by our cheerleaders and our Devilaires. We will also be

WRESTLING – Wrestling will be at Bellefontaine for the CBC Championships. Wrestling starts at 10:00.
GIRLS BASKETBALL – Girls BB will be hosting a tripleheader. 9
th at 11:00 vs. Beavercreek; JV at 1:00 vs.
Stebbins; and Varsity at 2:30 vs. Stebbins. We will be honoring our girls’ basketball seniors and their parents
immediately following the JV game. We will recognize Senior Ellise Sharpe during the senior ceremony for
scoring her 1,000th career point vs. Tecumseh on Saturday, January 14
th. During the game, you can witness senior
Morgan Miller score her 1,000th career varsity point. After last night’s 21 points against Greenon, Morgan is
currently sitting on 999 career points. Finally, with a win, our girls will lock up the CBC Championship and we
will celebrate that accomplishment with them after their victory!!
BOYS AND GIRLS BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT TICKETS:
Don’t forget that girls and boys basketball tournament time is also presale tournament ticket time. Boys and girls
basketball presale tickets are a HUGE BENEFIT TO OUR STUDENTS as 50% of all presale basketball
tournament ticket revenue gets returned to Tippecanoe Athletics. Please support our students by purchasing
your tournament tickets in advance. Girls’ Basketball tournament tickets will be available this weekend at our
two home basketball games. The boys’ tournament draw is this Sunday. Boys and Girls Basketball tournament
tickets will be in Clark’s Compounding starting Monday from 9:00 to 5:00 Monday – Friday. Presale Tickets are
$6.00 for everyone and again, $3.00 from every ticket will come back to THS. Tickets at the gate are $7.00 and
NONE of the gate revenue gets returned to THS so please save yourself a buck per ticket and HELP OUR
STUDENTS by purchasing your tournament tickets in advance at Clark’s.

UVMC Center for Sports Medicine Sportsmetrics™ Knee Injury Reduction Program Survey The UVMC Center for Sports Medicine would like your feedback regarding the Sportsmetrics™ Knee Injury
Reduction Program to be able to best meet the needs of the female athletes at Tippecanoe Schools. If you are the
parent of a 7th – 12
th grade female athlete, please complete the online survey at the following link,
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/DDVYB6L. The Sportsmetrics™ program is a comprehensive training
program specially designed for female athletes. It has been scientifically proven to reduce knee injuries and
improve performance for sports that involve pivoting, cutting, or jumping, such as soccer, basketball, and
volleyball. Throughout the year, the UVMC Center for Sports Medicine offers free Sportsmetrics™ screenings to
determine the risk for serious knee injury. In the summer, the six week Sportsmetrics™ training program is
offered to reduce female athletes’ risk for knee injury. If you have any questions about the Sportsmetrics™
program or would like to schedule a free screening, please contact the UVMC Center for Sports Medicine at (937)
667-2614.
Tipp Wrestlers Traveled to Columbus! Last Friday, the middle school and high school wrestlers went
to Columbus to watch Ohio State beat Michigan. After the dual
the boys were permitted to go onto the mat!
Healthy Start Wellness Challenge! Tipp City School teachers and staff have started another Wellness Challenge! As part of the EPC
(Educational Purchasing Council) – Alere Wellness group, the District participates in health
programs to promote healthy habits. This quarter everyone is challenged to eat a healthy
breakfast and get seven hours of
sleep. Some of the buildings are
adding other elements to the
challenge such as “Walk It Off
Wednesday” and “Five Minute
Walk”. It’s a fun way to
promote good health and save
on health insurance premiums.
