1. INTRODUCTION
In line with the Registration of Engineers Act 1967 (Revised 2015), onlyregistered Professional Engineers with a Practising Certificate can submitengineering plans to Local Authorities. In order to apply for a PractisingCertificate, Professional Engineers must sit and pass the ProfessionalCompetencyExamination(PCE)intheirrelevantbranchofpractice.Presently, the PCE for the following branches of practice for the constructionindustryareinplace:
Civilengineering Mechanicalengineering Electricalengineering Chemicalengineering
Candidateswhowanttositforotherbranchesofpracticeneedtowritetothe Board of EngineersMalaysia (BEM) to prepare PCE for these otherbranchesofpractice.
OnpassingtheProfessionalCompetencyExamination,thecandidatemayapplytoberegisteredasaProfessionalEngineerwithaPractisingCertificate.
ThisdocumentisissuedbytheBoardofEngineersMalaysiaasinformationforProfessionalEngineerstopreparefortheProfessionalCompetencyExamination.
2. AIMS OFTHE PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCY EXAMINATION
TheProfessional CompetencyExaminationwill test the candidateswithin thelimits of “professional engineering services” as defined in the Registration ofEngineersAct1967.The examination will also test the candidate’s knowledge, experience andapplicationof:
(a) RegulationsandrulesofengineeringpracticebyBEM(b) Statutorylaws,codes,regulations(c) StandardsofprofessionalismandethicalbehaviourimposedbyBEM

The Professional Competency Examination is conducted by the Board ofEngineersMalaysiapursuanttoSection38AoftheRegistrationofEngineersAct1967(Revised2015).TheBoardshallappointanExaminationPanel,consistingofsuchmembersfromamongst the registered Professional Engineers to assist in conducting theExamination.
4. ELIGIBILITYTOSITFORTHE EXAMINATION
Professional Engineers wishing to sit for the Professional CompetencyExamination(PCE)shallapplytotheBoardofEngineersMalaysiabycompletingtheBEMFormPCE‐A.Eligible candidates for the examination must be Professional EngineersregisteredwiththeBoardintheappropriatedisciplines.Onapprovalofthecandidate’sapplicationbytheBoard,thecandidateisallowedtositfortheexamination.
5. FEETOSITFORTHE EXAMINATION
FirstTimeCandidateThefeetositfortheProfessionalCompetencyExaminationisRM1,000.00withanadditionalfeeofRM100.00(non‐refundable)asprocessingfee.RE‐SITcandidateThefeere‐sitfortheProfessionalCompetencyExaminationisRM500.00foreachpaperstakenwithanadditionalfeeofRM100.00(non‐refundable)asprocessingfee.
6. DATEOFEXAMINATION
TheProfessionalCompetencyExaminationwillbeheldon29th–30thNovember2017.

TheexaminationcentrewillbeinKualaLumpur.Candidateswhoseapplicationhavebeenapprovedwillbedulyinformedofthefinallocationnotlaterthantwo(2)weeksbeforetheexamination.
8. APPLICATIONFORM
Application forms are obtainable from the office of the Board or may bedownloadedfromtheBoard’swebsiteathttp://www.bem.org.my.AllapplicationsaretobesubmittedtotheBoardwiththeapplicationfeesandcompletedocuments.TheCLOSINGDATEforapplicationis30THOCTOBER2017.Applicantswouldbeinformedofthestatusofhis/herapplicationbypostwithinonemonthaftertheapplicationdate.
9. FINALRESULTS ANDNOTIFICATION
o Candidates for the examination will be notified of their results four
monthsaftertheexaminationdate.o ExaminationresultswillbegiventocandidatesonaPass/Failbasisby
post.o Noexaminationscoresormarkswillbegiventothecandidates.
10. EXAMINATIONAPPEALS
A candidatewho fails theexaminationmaysubmitawrittenappeal to reviewhis/herperformancetogetherwithapaymentofRM400.00.Theappealistobemadewithintwo(2)weeksafterthereceiptoftheresults.Lateappealswillnotbeentertained.Theresultof theappealwillbesentbywrittenmail totheappealcandidate.ThefindingsoftheappealbytheBEMwillbefinal.Nofurtherappealwillbeallowed.
11. COURSESFORTHEEXAMINATION
TheBoarddoesnotendorseanycourseconductedorprovidematerialasstudyaidsfortheexamination.

12. REFUND OFEXAMINATIONFEES
Whentheapplicanthasbeenacceptedbut isunable tosit for theexaminationsubsequently,theBoardmay,atitsdiscretion,refundRM500.00totheapplicantiftheapplicantinformstheBoardatleasttwoweeksbeforetheexaminationorsubmitamedicalcertificatewithintwoweeksaftertheexamination.TherewillbenorefundiftheapplicantinformstheBoardlessthantwoweeksbeforetheexaminationdate.
13. NOSHOWBYTHE CANDIDATESFORTHEEXAMINATION
Candidateswhodonotattendtheexaminationsittingforwhateverreasonswillbemarkedas“NoShow”.Theirexaminationfeeswillbeforfeitedandnorefundorcreditwillbetransferredforthenextsitting.
14. IDENTIFICATIONOFTHE CANDIDATESATTHEEXAMINATIONCENTRE
Candidatessittingfortheexaminationmustbringalongidentificationdocumentsforinspectionattheexaminationcentre.Theidentificationdocumentsforlocalcandidatesshallbetheiridentitycardswhileforforeigncandidates,itshallbetheirpassports.
15. FORMAT OFTHE EXAMINATIONPAPERSINTHE VARIOUS DISCIPLINES
TheExaminationisanopenbookexaminationandshallbeintwoparts:PartAandPartB. AcandidatemustpassbothPartAandBinordertopassthewholeexamination.Acandidateathis/herfirstsittingmustsitforbothPartAandBtogether.
Subsequently,acandidatewhohasfailedPartBbutpassedPartAisallowedtositforPartBonlybutwithinthefollowingthreeyears.
IntheeventoffailureinPartBinthefollowingthreeyears,theapplicanthastore‐sit thewholeexaminationagain.ThisrulingwillbesimilarlyappliedtothecasewhenanapplicanthaspassedPartBbutfailedPartA.

and understanding of the latest relevant Acts, Regulations, By-Laws, Standards, Codes of
Practices, good engineering practices in Malaysia. There will be questions set on the application
