    BeforeyoubegincreatingpresentationsinPowerPoint,youmaywanttosetupyourPowerPointenvironmentandbecomefamiliarwithafewkeytaskssuchashowtominimizeandmaximizetheRibbon,configuretheQuickAccesstoolbar,switchviews,andaccessyourPowerPointoptions.

    ExploringthePowerPointWindow

    WhenyouopenPowerPoint,anewpresentationiscreatedandablankslideappearsinthePowerPointwindow.Theslidehasplaceholdersforyoutoaddatitleandsubtitle.

    ThetabbedRibbonmenusystemishowyouaccessthevariousPowerPointcommands.IfyouhaveusedpreviousversionsofPowerPoint,theRibbonsystemreplacesthetraditionalmenus.AbovetheRibbonintheupper-leftcorneristheMicrosoftOfficeButton.Fromhere,youcanaccessimportantoptionssuchasNew,Save,SaveAs,andPrint.BydefaulttheQuickAccessToolb

    arispinnednexttotheMicrosoftOfficeButton,andincludescommandssuchasUndoandRedo.

    Ontheleftsideofthewindow,youwillseeataskpanewithslidesandoutlinetabs,whichappearsbydefault.Onthebottom,rightareaofthescreenyouwillfindViewcommands(Normal,SlideSorter,andSlideShow),andthezoomtool.

    Locatethezoombarinthebottom,rightcorner.Clicktheslideranddragittotherighttozoominandtothelefttozoomout.ToChangeViews

    LocatetheViewoptionsinthebottom,rightcorner.TheViewoptionsareNormal,SlideSorter,andSlideShow.Clickanoptiontoselectit.ThedefaultisNormalView.

    TheQuickAccessToolbar

    ClicktheAddbutton.ClickOK.menusinPowerPoint2007.Itisdesignedtoberesponsivetoyourcurrenttaskandeasytouse;however,youcanchoosetominimizetheRibbonifyouwouldprefertousedifferentmenusorkeyboardshortcuts.

    ToMinimizeandMaximizetheRibbon:

    Clickthedrop-downarrownexttotheQuickAccesstoolbar.

    PowerPointincludesallthefeaturesyouneedtoproduceprofessional-lookingpresentations.WhenyoucreateaPowerPointpresentation,itismadeupofaseriesofslides.Theslidescontaintheinformationyouwanttocommunicatewithyouraudience.Thisinformationcanincludetext,pictures,charts,video,sound,andmore.Beforeyoubeginaddinginformationtoslides,youneedtoknowthebasicsofworkingwithslides.Inthislessonyouwilllearnhowtostartanewpresentation,insertnewslides,modifyalayout,moveandcopyslides,howplaceholderswork,aswellashowtosaveyourpresentation.

    CreatingNewPresentations

    NewPresentations

    WhenyouopenPowerPointfromtheStartmenuorfromanicononyourdesktop,anewpresentationwithoneslideappearsbydefault.YoucanalsocreateanewpresentationwhilePowerPointisalreadyopen.

    ClicktheMicrosoftOfficeButtonandchooseNewfromthemenu.TheNewPresentationdialogboxwillappear.Blankpresentationisselectedbydefault.

    ClickCreate,andanewpresentationwillopeninthePowerPointwindow.ThedefaultslidethatappearswhenyoucreateanewpresentationisaTitleSlidelayout.SlideBasics

    AbouttheSlides

    Slidescontainplaceholders,orareasonaslidethatareenclosedbydottedborders.Placeholderscancontainmanydifferentitemsincludingtext,pictures,andcharts.Someplaceholdershaveplaceholdertext,ortextthatyoucanreplace,andthumbnail-sizediconsthatrepresentspecificcommandssuchasInsertPicture,InsertChart,andInsertClipArt.Hoverovereachicontoseethetypeofinformationyoucaninsert.

    AboutSlideLayouts

    Theplaceholdersarearrangedindifferentlayoutsthat

    ThemesandBackgroundStyles

    Athemeisapredefinedcombinationofcolors,fonts,andeffectsthatcanbeappliedtoyourpresentation.PowerPointincludesbuilt-inthemesthatallowyoutoeasilycreateprofessional-lookingpresentationswithoutspendingalotoftimeformatting.Eachthemehasadditionalbackgroundstylesassociatedwithitthatcanbeappliedtotheslidestomodifythetheme.

    Inthislesson,youwilllearnhowtoapplyatheme,modifythemecolors,themefonts,andthemeeffects,aswellasapplyabackgroundstyle.

    AboutThemes

    WhenyoucreateanewpresentationinPowerPointthereisathemeappliedeventhoughtheslidebackgroundiswhite.ThisdefaultthemeiscalledtheOfficeTheme.TheOfficeThemeconsistsofawhitebackground,andCalibrifontofvarioussizesfortitlesandbodytext.

    Youcanapplyadifferentthemetoyourslidesbeforeyouaddtextormake

    changestothedefaultslide.Anadvantageofdoingthisisthatthelocationofthetextwillnotmove.Ifyouapplythethemeafteryouentertextontheslides,thetextboxesandplaceholdersmaymovedependingonthethemeyouchoose.

    Anadvantageofenteringsomeofyourtextbeforeapplyinganewthemeisthatthelivepreviewfeatureallowsyoutoseehowthethemeswillaffectyourspecifictext.TheexamplebelowistheAspecttheme.
