LM-therm GmbH05.06.1961 Leo Möskes establishes a firm in sole
proprietorship for the manufacture of wastewater treatment systems in Röthenbach near Nuremberg / Germany.
In control cabinets that were operated around dew point tem-peratures, at that time, light bulbs were installed to avoid fal-ling below dew point temperature by means of the light bulb'swaste heat..
1972 Mr. Möskes applied for a utility patent for the first con-trol cabinet heating system.
1979 New premises were built in Altdorf near Nuremberg /Germany.
1994 The founder of the enterprise, Leo Möskes, dies. His wi-dow self-dependently continues the business.
1996 The company moves into the newly acquired premi-ses in Arnstorf / Germany.
2002 Leo Möskes' widow dies.
01.10.2002Achter Elektronik AG acquires the partner's interest shares of Lm-therm GmbH.
Achter Elektronik AG and Lm-therm GmbH utilize the synergy effects resulting from the amalgamation to the benefit of their customers.
01.11.2004 The product range of Lm-therm GmbH is revised, considerably extended and documented in this catalog.

Right from the beginning, the firm of Franz Achter being acompetent and flexible partner for worldwide active compa-nies has - always customer-specifically - realized the most di-verse requirements as a supplier for cable technology andelectrical component assemblies.
1996 Now there is approx. 400 m2 of floor space available atthe premises. The cable technology division is consider-ably expanded and the electro-technical division inclu-ding the production of component assemblies and elec-tro-mechanical devices is enlarged.
1999 New building of a production hall. Now there is approx.1200 m2 available at the premises.
2000 The number of customers and also the product rangewas significantly increased and extended. In the sectorof electronics, now also the development and produc-tion of printed circuit boards and the automated inser-tion of components on printed circuit boards is realized.The entire range of offered services was extended:Production including procurement of materials, disposi-tion, warehousing, delivery services on behalf of custo-mers (inland and foreign countries!).
2001The firm is converted into an incorporated company.

Why are heating and/or cooling necessary inside control cabinets?
Meanwhile, we speak about control cabinet climate control instead of control cabinet heating:Heating and/or cooling. This includes temperature control, control of humidity, and also com-bined control of temperature and humidity.
Varied fields of application show that this subject is not only prevailing with regard to controlcabinets: Control cabinets, automation, traffic and motor vehicle technologies, telecommuni-cation, switching and control systems, control cabinet distributor systems, switch room di-splays in power plants, in mining and in shipbuilding, applications in the municipal facilitiessector, in the chemical industry, in general enclosure technology, cranes, wind engines, largeweighing machines, etc., in other words anywhere, where sensitive, sometimes highly compli-cated circuitry needs to be protected against condensation water.
Heating / cooling improves the fail-safe quality of your installations and just enables properfunctioning. Condensation water may result from temperature fluctuations, temperatures drop-ping below dew point temperature, or from temperature differences between inside and outsi-de temperature.
Moisture may cause corrosion and also creeping currents in connection with the generation ofdust.
By utilizing heating / cooling systems you will achieve: • Protection against condensation water• Frost protection• Compensation of heat fluctuations• A stable ambient temperature for the technical equipment installed• Protection of components against generation of dew• Formation of heat pockets is avoided by permanent convection• No falling below or exceeding of temperatures permissible for the installed compo-
nents!

A) "When" should "which" heating system be installed?Deciding for the right method of mounting and of course also the proper selection of heatingand control device depends on several different factors.

D) General notes on climate control in control cabinets
1) InstallationA more uniform heat distribution is achieved if the heater is installed within the lower third of the cabinet. Coolers however, should be installed in the upper area inside the cabinet.
2) Air circulation / convectionThe natural convection of heating air should not be disturbed by extreme packing density of installed built-in devices. Efficiency and heat distribution can be optimized by implementing circulation fans, complete fan heating systems, or by installing small ventilators. (See catalog pages 21 / 23)
3) Surface temperatures in case of PTC heating systemsBecause of high surface temperatures, no heat-sensitive components should be installed directly above ornext to a PTC heating device.
4) Large control cabinetsFor improved heat distribution in large control cabinet, it is always recommended to install several heatersincluding separate temperature controllers respectively circulation fans or heat blowers instead of just one.
5) Tropical versionFor the implementation of thermostatically controlled heating systems in tropic regions and at high powerratings, it is necessary to raise the operating temperature of the heating system itself. .Tropical version means: < 35 °C switch-on / 65 °C switch-off! . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Please always indicate "T" when ordering tropical versions!
6) Mounting position - maximum efficiencyPlease note our specifications for the individual devices!
7) Should separate controllers be installed?For thermostatically controlled heating systems (pages 11 - 19), it is not necessary to install a separate tem-perature controller. Price advantage! The size of the control cabinet, the number of built-in devices and ot-her foreign influences however could be factors for a decision to install a separate controller in spite of it.In case of PTC heaters, on principle, a controller should be installed upstream!
8) Fuse protection for heating systemThermostatic heaters are linear and therefore, can be fused equal to the rated current consumption (I = P/U)!PTC heaters however must be fused (delayed-action fuse) at 5 times the rated current consumption (I = P/U x 5) because of their high switch-on currents.
9) Fixing and connection (see page 9)Heating devices are either snapped-on to a 35 mm DIN-rail or directly screwed on. (Please notespecifications for individual devices).The electrical connection can be made either via connecting leads or directly, using the connecting terminal of the device.
10) Control systemsOur partners are renowned manufacturers. Again our tip: Please let us have your inquiry also if you don't find the controller / sensor / heating device you are looking for in our catalog! . . . . . .Customer-specific versions of devices are - if so agreed - of course subject to exclusivity. With you we would as well come to an exact agreement in such a situation.

Heaters with integrated thermostat (catalog pages 11 - 19)Our heaters consist of ceramic heating elements, built into an aluminum enclosure designed tothermo-technical specifications, and include an on-off bimetal temperature controller.Resistors and output curves of that heating system show linear characteristics.
1) The built-in temperature controller ensures operational reliability.
2) Due to the built-in temperature controller, there are no high surface temperatures thatcould influence or damage the built-in devices in their functional reliability.
3) The built-in temperature controller is set to a switch-off temperature of 55 °C (thistemperature setting can be modified at the factory upon customers' request).
4) Thermostatically controlled heating systems can be operated without an externaltemperature controller (price advantage!). However, under particular installationconditions and when high accuracy in controlling the cabinet temperature is requi-red, the installation of a separate temperature controller is of course possible and al-so reasonable.
5) This heating system is energy saving. At cabinet temperatures above 25 °C, the hea-ting does not switch on! (Other settings are possible - see point 3!)
6) Great variations in rated heating power, voltage, mounting, connecting conditionsand enclosure dimensions are possible! (see pages 8/9)
7) Operating voltages from 12 V to 600 V.

PTC heaters (catalog pages 20 - 23)Our heaters consist of specifically designed aluminum bodies with inserted PTC elements.These elements are also called thermistors and consist of doped semiconductor materials.
1) PTC heaters are self-controlling with a dynamic heat-up phase.
2) This heating principle can be utilized within a wide voltage range (110 V to 265 V).
3) With types P-25 (page 21) and P-80 (page 23), it is possible to install an additionalfan. Thereby you achieve a more uniform heat distribution and higher efficiency.
4) Regarding tightly packed built-in devices or danger in touching, we refer to the pro-blem of high surface temperatures (up to 150 °C).
5) PTC heaters do not switch off at a defined point like thermostat-controlled heatersdo. An upstream controller is recommended. (Controllers see page 27 and following)
6) Due to the barretter effect, switch-on currents are very high. Please notice that regar-ding fuse protection and interlinking of heaters.

Utilizing a circulation fan avoids head accumulation and formation of heat pockets inside controlcabinets. When heaters are installed, their efficiency is increased by circulation fans. The resulting aircirculation dissipates heat through the surface of the cabinet and so, a cooling effect is achieved.

Peltier effectThe Peltier effect is a thermoelectric effect, named after the French physicistJean Peltier. Respectively doped (n-type and p-type) semiconductor materialsare used, which are alternately connected in series, each at two junctions.An electric current flowing through that system causes a change in the ener-gy level of charge carriers, thus providing heat being absorbed at one junc-tion and being evolved at the other.
Application and functionThese cooling elements in Peltier technology were developed for the coolingof small control cabinets, operating boxes and switch panels, as well as forindustrial PCs, CRT monitors and flat screens.The electrical connection is made at 24 V DC. Mounting is simple andaccomplished through a cutout in a door or side wall or the roof of theenclosure.
