Introduction National Safety

Month was first established in 1996 by the National Safety Council to increase the awareness of safety and decrease the number of unintentional injuries and deaths.

Focuses for the Month Each week of June is

dedicated to a safety issue in which you can help spread the awareness of the following safety issues: Preventing prescription

drug abuse. Stopping slips, trips, and

falls. Being aware of your

surroundings. Distracted driving. Summer safety.

Prevent Prescription Drug Abuse According to the

National Safety Council, unintentional drug overdoses have caused more deaths than motor vehicle accidents to those that are 35-54 years old.

This week is dedicated to help spread the awareness of how you can prevent injuries and death by spreading the risks of prescription drug abuse.

Stopping Slips, Trips, and Falls There are many ways

that you can help prevent these occurrences.

Having a well-maintained floor that is clean can help prevent slipping, tripping, and falling hazards.

Make sure that your employees are always aware of their surroundings at all times.

Being Aware of Your Surroundings Whether you are at work

or at home, or anywhere else for that matter, you should always be aware of your surroundings.

Dedicate this week to let your peers know the importance of being aware of your surroundings at all times to prevent any type of injury.

Preventing Distracted Driving People should never use

a cell phone while driving, whether it is talking without a hands-free device or texting while driving.

You are four more times likely to get into a car accident when using a cell phone while driving, so it is facts like that you can tell others in order to prevent these types of accidents from happening.

Summer Safety In order to enjoy your

summer, there are things that you and your peers should do to have the most enjoyable and safe summer possible.

Some things that you can do include being safe from the sun by wearing sunscreen, keeping yourself hydrated during the hot weather months, and more.
