55 killed in China slaughterhouse fireBeijing,

At least 55 people were killed Monday whena major fire swept through a poultry processingplant in northeast China's Jilin province, authori-ties said.

The fire broke out at 6 a.m. at the slaughter-house owned by the Jilin Baoyuanfeng PoultryCompany in Mishazi township of Dehui city, saidfirefighters.

Over 300 workers were in the plant when theaccident happened, survivors told Xinhua, add-ing that they heard a bang and then witnesseddark smoke at around 6 a.m.

About 100 workers managed to escape fromthe plant whose gate was locked when the fireoccurred, said survivors.

The complicated interior structure of the pre-fabricated house in which the fire broke out andthe narrow exits added difficulties to the rescuework, sources said.

Abu Dhabi bank hires 60 people afterroad show

Abu Dhabi, The Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB), a top fi-

nancial services institution in the UAE, will hire 60Emirati nationals after a successful road show heldin Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

The ADIB's Open Day road show attractedaround 600 people from across the country, look-ing to join the bank.

The bank has signed a number of agreementswith many universities and colleges, including theAmerican University of Dubai, Al Hosn University,the Higher Colleges of Technology and Abu DhabiUniversity.
