Protection & Control
Overcurrent Trip• Current in any phase greater than 1.2 x FLA, the
unit calculates the time to trip• Separate calculations are performed for cold and
hot motors• Once the fault condition is reached, the LM10
unit will not reset until an appropriate cool-down period has elapsed
• Overcurrent function can not be disabled

IndustrialMultilin
Protection & Control

IndustrialMultilin
Protection & Control
Cool Down Time• Upon an Overcurrent, Jam or Stall fault, the LM10
forces a cool-down period before the motor may be restarted
• The time to reset is calculated as a function of Trip Class and % FLA a the time of trip
• While the motor is in the cool-down time delay, the PDU status screen will show a number decrementing from 99. Once the number reaches 0, the motor can be restarted and the “READY TO RUN” message will be displayed
18GE Consumer &
IndustrialMultilin
Protection & Control
Current Unbalance Trip• Trips if the phases are unbalanced• If the average current exceeds the FLA, then
the average current is used in the calculations• Programmable trip setting between 2 and 25%
FLA• Time delay settable between 0 and 255
seconds• 6% current unbalance equates to a 1% voltage
unbalance• A 4% voltage unbalance equates to a 24%
current unbalance and will frequently cause motor damage
• This function can be disabled
Ground Fault Trip• Programmable trip setting between 0.4 and
20A• Time delay settable between 0.5 and 2.5
seconds• This function can be disabled
19GE Consumer &
IndustrialMultilin
Protection & Control
Over/Undervoltage Trip• Maximum & minimum trip levels are hard
coded into LM10• Undervoltage trip level is 80% (or 96V)• Overvoltage trip level is 117% (or 140V)• This function can not be disabled
Jam Protection• According to NEMA or IEC MG 1-1998 part 12,
page 21, “polyphase motors 600 V or less not exceeding 500 horsepower shall be capable of withstanding a current not less than 1.5 times the full load rated current for not less than two minutes when the motor is at normal operating temperature.” For relatively low over-current conditions, particularly on higher NEMA Class motors, trip times could be considerably longer than 2 minutes. Therefore, a separate Jam fault is available because the standard time overcurrent curve may not protect in this range.
• Jam level can be set between 100 and 250% of FLA
• Time delay settable between 0 and 1000 seconds
• This function can be disabled

Protection & Control
Stall Protection• According to NEMA or IEC MG 1-1998 part 12,
page 21, “polyphase motors 600 V or less not exceeding 500 horsepower shall be capable of withstanding locked-rotor current (6 times FLA) for not less than 12 seconds when the motor is at normal operating temperature.”
• Cold motor trip times for a 6 × FLA fault are determined by trip class. For example, a NEMA Class 20 motor at 6 × FLA would trip in 20 seconds. A separate Stall fault is available which would allow the user to reduce the trip time for large overcurrent situations.
• Stall level can be set between 330 and 600% of FLA
• Time delay settable between 0 and 30 seconds• This function can be disabled
Load Loss Trip• Load loss is based on watts• Power Factor calculated is phase relationship
between voltage and phase C current• Load loss level can be set between 15 and 85%
of Full Load• Time delay settable between 0 and 255
seconds• This function can be disabled
21GE Consumer &
IndustrialMultilin
Protection & Control
Auxiliary Sense Failure• Detects that a LM10 relay contact (RUN1 or
RUN2) did not open/close according to its command and will shut down the relay
• Time delay settable between 0.1 and 25.0 seconds
• This function can be disabled
Power Loss Autorestart Feature• “Power loss when running”• LM10 will be able to recover from a power loss
of up to 4 seconds and return to its previous run state
• Enabling autorestart allows the unit to restart the motor without operator intervention using a momentary Run input
• The default condition, “Disabled”, would require the operator to restart the motor after the LM10 regains power
• Potential safety hazards must be considered and the appropriate setup chosen for each individual application
Run 1 to Run 2 or Run 2 to Run 1
• Delay between forward and reverse or between speeds

Frequently Asked Questions
35GE Consumer &
IndustrialMultilin
Some Frequently Asked Questions• What about Remote IO?
A wide selection of DeviceNet Remote IO is available from PLC manufacturers as well as from GE Mebane (MS2000IO). This IO is intended to work as part of a PLC/DCS system.
• Does this work with an HMI?Yes. You can configure this to work with an HMI either via the PLC/DCS controller or via a PC based DeviceNet card.
• Does this have ODVA?As we come out with firmware revisions, we will apply and maintain ODVA.
• On the subject of firmware, can I “flash” new firmware upgrades into the LM10?No. The LM10’s firmware is stored on a EPROM chip and not on flash memory.
• What about cables? You can obtain a 3’ cable when ordering the unit. Other DeviceNet cables can be ordered via your local PLC distributor.
• What types of DeviceNet Communications does the LM10 support?LM10 supports unsolicited DeviceNet messaging, and specific values via polled messaging. Please consult the manual for specifics.
• Who supports the LM10?GE Multilin supports the LM10 just as with all GE Multilin Devices. Please contact our Customer Support Team
at 1-800-547-8629. For equipment integration considerations, please contact the MCC equipment OEM.
• Where can I get information on size, spec’s, mounting, and wiring information? All product information (manuals, cut sheets, etc.) are available on the web. http://www.geindustrial.com/cwc/products?pnlid=6&id=lm10
