Petrel TIPS&TRICKS from SCME&P SOLUTIONS
Petrel 2014 – Ribbons
In the fourth installment of our series of brief TIPS&TRICKS articles featuring selected changes or options now available to the Petrel 2014 user, we take a closer look at Ribbons.
Overview The Ribbon interface in Petrel 2014 is an implementation of the concept from Microsoft’s “Fluent UI” technology. Industry‐relevant workflows are presented in “Domain tabs”. Each tab re‐organizes the familiar Petrel Processes and tools in left‐to‐right sequences, which in turn guide the user through the work steps to accomplish these workflows.
The figure above shows only part of the Geology and Geophysics perspective ribbon. There are more tabs to the right of Property Modeling.
Perspectives Each Perspective contains different tabs. Access to some tools is duplicated in different perspectives.
1. Seismic to Simulation Perspective 2. Geology and Geophysics Perspective 3. Reservoir and Production Perspective

2. Window Contextual Tabs – Tools that visually show how a Petrel window is setup, how it is annotated and how it displays data
3. Object Contextual Tabs – Tools that show how a specific object type is displayed and modified
