Parent/ Carer’s Mornings
As of the 1st of June we will be facilitating a Parents/Carers' Morning on the first Friday of every month. It will be a time that we can come together, enjoy a cup of tea or coffee after drop off and get to know other families in our community. Parents/Carers' will be welcome to head up to the PAC (above school car-park) from 8:55am. There will be a loose agenda each time – and this is open to ideas from parents as we go: 1.Make a cup of tea/coffee and get to know each other.
2.Hear about some of the teaching and learning practices at Carlton Gardens PS. This first session will focus on how students learn to read and how you as the parent/carer can best support your child with reading.
3.Help out with some book covering while we talk

This applies when riding: •on roads •on bike and shared paths •in bike lanes •in recreational parks •in car parks Police can stop bike and scooter riders and issue a fine or a warning for not wearing an approved bicycle helmet.

Carlton Gardens PS After-School Robotics (Term 3)
TIME: 3:45pm to 4:45pm
LOCATION: Carlton Gardens PAC
COST: $225 for 9 sessions (Exc GST)
DATES: Wednesday 18th of July - Wednesday 19th of September
*No session on the 15th of August
GRADES: 3-6
Maximum of 30 students
Robokids will be back at Carlton Gardens in term 3!
This after-school program is for students in grades 3-6 at Carlton Gardens PS. New and returning students will work
separately to ensure all children are receiving instruction and being presented with activities appropriate to their
experience level.
NEW STUDENTS: Children will work in pairs and use the advanced LEGO EV3 MINDSTORMS robots and software.
During the initial part of the course, students will focus on understanding how the individual components (sensors,
motors, gears) of the robots work and how to program them. Once the students demonstrate mastery of this, they
will be presented with more complex challenges that require multiple components functioning simultaneously. The
programming required for these challenges becomes significantly more complicated.
RETURNING STUDENTS: Given that we have only had 3 out of 10 sessions so far and some of your children are
attending the 3 day camp over the holidays it is quite hard to specify exactly what we will be working on in term 3.
Prior to the term 3 sessions starting, I will look at the children attending and design unit outlines that will build
upon what they have already learnt. These will vary for each child but will likely include learning how to write
multi-tasking programs and how to incorporate variables, switches & data wires into their coding.
If you have any questions then please contact Claire Grady at [email protected] or on 0405 523 975.
