It has been great to see so many children riding scooters to school. We just wanted our community to be aware that Victorian law states:
All bike and scooter riders are required to wear a bike helmet in Victoria. Mandatory bicycle helmet laws were introduced in July 1990. This applies when riding: •on roads •on bike and shared paths •in bike lanes •in recreational parks •in car parks Police can stop bike and scooter riders and issue a fine or a warning for not wearing an approved bicycle helmet.

GRADES: 3-6
Robokids will be back at Carlton Gardens in term 3!
This after-school program is for students in grades 3-6 at Carlton Gardens PS. New and returning students will work
separately to ensure all children are receiving instruction and being presented with activities appropriate to their
experience level.
NEW STUDENTS: Children will work in pairs and use the advanced LEGO EV3 MINDSTORMS robots and software.
During the initial part of the course, students will focus on understanding how the individual components (sensors,
motors, gears) of the robots work and how to program them. Once the students demonstrate mastery of this, they
will be presented with more complex challenges that require multiple components functioning simultaneously. The
programming required for these challenges becomes significantly more complicated.
RETURNING STUDENTS: Given that we have only had 3 out of 10 sessions so far and some of your children are
attending the 3 day camp over the holidays it is quite hard to specify exactly what we will be working on in term 3.
Prior to the term 3 sessions starting, I will look at the children attending and design unit outlines that will build
upon what they have already learnt. These will vary for each child but will likely include learning how to write
multi-tasking programs and how to incorporate variables, switches & data wires into their coding.
If you have any questions then please contact Claire Grady at [email protected] or on 0405 523 975.
