The Hospitality Manager Level 4 apprenticeship provides a training opportunity for individuals to develop their managerial skills in a specialised area of a hospitality organisation. Common to all managers in this role is their passion for exceeding customers’ expectations.
On completion of this standard, apprentices will demonstrate they are highly motivated leaders with a talent for management and specific industry skills, ensuring a level of responsibility and accountability for fulfilling the business visions and objectives.

A 9,000 word written project focusing on an opportunity, challenge or idea which the apprentice considers will make an improvement to the business they are working in.
It is not written or assessed until the EPA process commences, but the learner will begin to plan their project in the EPA period preceding the gateway meeting and will submit a 2-page synopsis at this time.

What is it?
It will give the learner the opportunity to demonstrate their wider understanding of the business they are working in and in particular to identify and ‘think through’ how an improvement could be made to the way it operates.

READINESS FOR EPA EPA CRITERIA HOW IT IS DELIVERED KEY INFORMATION
FUNCTIONAL SKILLS English and Maths Functional Skills must be achieved at Level 1 and the test taken for Level 2. (No requirement for ICT).
GATEWAY DISCUSSION Training provider, learner and employer have a face to face gateway conversation to all verify they are in agreement that the learner is ready for EPA to begin.
EPA READINESS FORM Completed and sent to Innovate to allow for planning meeting to take place.
PLANNING MEETING scheduled with Innovate’s End Point Assessor, learner and employer.
Planning Meeting.
PLANNING MEETING – Held with employer, learner and End Point Assessor to build relationship, answer any questions and discuss the requirements and plans for the EPA activities and to schedule future meetings. The learner will submit a 2-page synopsis of their proposed business project.
The maximum length of the assessment is 3 months and the results are distinction, pass or fail.
Should an learner fail one assessment activity this should be retaken as soon as the learner is ready and practicable for the business – the re-sit is normally expected to take place after all the required assessments have been taken.
Should they fail 2 or more activities a period of retraining is required. A maximum of 2 retakes per assessment activity is allowed.
When re-taking an assessment the maximum grade available is a pass. The ESFA will provide the certificate and Innovate will provide individual certificates for each section achieved of the EPA. Assessments must be taken in order.
On Demand Test.
ON DEMAND TEST – On screen test with scenario based questions delivered through Innovate’s bespoke IT system. 90 minute on-demand multiple choice test with 35 questions.
25 questions are based on the core programme and 10 questions are based on the specialism. The Learner must pass both sections to pass overall, with a minimum of 70% correct. Achieving 85% or above will award a distinction.
Practical Observation.
BUSINESS PROJECT – Written project of 9,000 words focusing on an opportunity, challenge or idea which the apprentice considers will make an improvement to the business.
Apprentices will begin to plan their business project in the period preceding the gateway meeting with the independent end-point assessor in order that a 2-page synopsis can be presented for discussion
There are set competencies that the apprentice will have to demonstrate in order to achieve a pass, and additional competencies to achieve a distnction.
Professional Discussion.
PROFESSIONAL DISCUSSION – 90 minute discussion between the apprentice and end point assessor. This will be planned in advance during the EPA period to allow the apprentice to prepare fully for the discussion. The Assessor will ask a minimum of 30 question.
The discussion will reflect on their developed knowledge, skills and behaviours. The learner must demonstrate competence against all of the grading criteria for a pass. To achieve distinction, the learner must explain how they have met the relevant criteria, including effective communication, leadership, teamwork, self-evaluation and the details behavioural elements of the standard.
