Opening Friday, March 8, Garrison Players will present the musical “1776,” featuring a cast of alumni performers recreating their roles, as well as new friends joining the ensemble.
The Garrison Players pur-chased the Hiram R. Roberts Grange as its permanent home in 1988. Due to the extensive renovations required, the first official stage production was not possible until over 15 years later with the staging of “1776.”
“This is the perfect way to showcase our 60th season,” said Priscilla Barton, producer of “1776.” “The first musical on our new stage is the same that opened our theater. And to bring back cast members after almost 10 years is a testament to the dedication of our performers and other volunteers.”
Featuring quick-witted dia-logue and a playful score, “1776” dramatizes the impassioned de-bates of Philadelphia’s Second Continental Congress, as the
PORTSMOUTH – When Mark Wentworth
Home resident Albert French’s son Brad set up a digital picture frame to remind his father of their family history, his effort went viral.
The home’s enrichment team set out to show other resi-dents how sharing videos and photos can help to keep family connected. In the process, the story of Brad French’s digital project and its affect on Al’s recall of family history reached Tom Paulbeck, regional vice president of Allianz Life Finan-cial Services. Allianz stepped up so that other residents could receive the same benefit. Alli-anz donated 10 digital frames to the home. The staff there is helping family members install special memories on the devic-es to assist with memory care.
Paulbeck said, “I work with Brad and when he told me how much joy the revolv-ing pictures gave his father, I wanted to share that with other Mark Wentworth residents and
their families.”Gretchen Poehlman, di-
rector of community develop-ment for the Mark Wentworth Home said, “This is a wonder-ful gift for our residents. Our staff will work with families to create slide shows of family memories that serve as win-dows into the past, where many
of our residents feel the most comfortable.”

“Jeff is a true artist and his work represents exactly the kind of fun, innovative films we plan to show at the IOKA when it re-opens,” said Trevor Bartlett, programming chairman of the Exeter Theater Company’s board of directors. “A live per-formance like this is a rare thing indeed and we’re honored that Jeff is hosting this special event for our benefit.”
The Exeter Theater Com-pany is spearheading efforts to restore and reopen the IOKA, a historic theater in downtown Exeter. The theater served as the community’s downtown movie house and performance center for nearly a century before clos-ing in 2008.
The benefit screening at
Exeter Town Hall is presented with support from Mechanical Forensics Engineering Services of Rochester (www.mfes.com) in cooperation with the Town of Exeter.
“The Cameraman” con-tains several classic sequences often cited as among Keaton’s best, including a scene in which Keaton and a large man both struggle to change into swim-suits in a tiny dressing room. The scene, which runs several min-utes long, was filmed in one take.
“The Cameraman” will be preceded by a shorter Keaton picture, “Sherlock Jr.” (1924), which is also a film about film. In “Sherlock Jr.,” Keaton plays a movie projectionist hoping to become a great detective. The

fun begins when he dreams him-self into the plot of his theater’s latest crime melodrama, with unexpected results.
Born in 1895, Keaton made his stage debut as a tod-dler, joining his family’s knock-about vaudeville act and learn-ing to take falls and do acrobatic stunts at an early age. He spent his entire childhood and adoles-cence on stage, attending school for exactly one day.
An entirely intuitive artist, Keaton entered films in 1917 and was quickly absorbed by the new medium. After apprenticing with popular comedian Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle, Keaton went on to set up his own studio in 1920, making short comedies that established him as a one of the era’s leading talents.
Rapsis, a New Hampshire-based silent film accompanist, will provide live music for both films. Rapsis, who accompanies silent film screenings at venues around the nation, improvises live scores for silent films using a digital synthesizer to recreate the texture of the full orchestra.
