Glendenning Public School
Safe, Respectful Learners
Term 4, Week 8 Thursday, November 27, 2014
135 Armitage Drive, Glendenning. NSW. 2761 Ph: 9832 8555 Fax: 98329724 E: glendennin‐[email protected]
Dear Parents,
The Annual School Concert – ‘Dance the Night Away’ for 2014 – was a huge success in many ways last night.
Firstly, to all of the parents who attended the night or simply ensured their children were there to perform, thank
you very much – your support was invaluable. If you were actually in the audience and participated through your
encouragement of the students that was also very, very much appreciated. I would like to add that audience
reaction this year appeared to be much more positive and showed the appropriate respect to the performers.
Next, my thanks go to all of the many, many people who said a ‘Thank you’ or ‘Well done’ or ‘Congratulations on a
great night’ as they left the auditorium, or on Thursday morning at school. Teachers do not have to prepare and go
through the hard task of presenting concerts and so, on behalf of all of the teachers, thank you to the parents who
were gracious enough to show their appreciation to myself or others.
Audience movement prior to, between and after the concerts required a great deal of cooperation. The RHRSL Club
had to change our plans for assisting all audience members to leave the club and, unfortunately, this meant that we
need the cooperation of all parents to ensure we were able to dismiss students in a safe, orderly and timely manner.
GPS is a PBL school. This means that all school members – students, staff and community members are expected to
act in safe, respectful ways. Students show respect for others and teachers. Teachers show respect for students and
parents. The majority of parents showed respect for teachers. Prior to the night we did have some parents who
could not understand why, when they did not pay for their tickets until the fourth or fifth day of sales, they did not
get the seats they wanted and then requested that the school change others to accommodate their wishes. The
school cannot and will not attempt to do this – being then told that the school is ‘stupid’ does not enhance the
reputation of any parent at school. Regrettably, on the night, there were some instances of parents who could not
see beyond their own self‐interest and in attempting to ensure their needs were met were either rude to or acting in
a very uncooperative manner with teachers. Additionally these parents caused possible safety problems and welfare
issues for students.
The teachers at Glendenning are a special group. They focus clearly on what is right and best for students. On behalf
of all of the parents who were respectful of their work and supported them, and in many cases expressed their
thanks, I say a very, very big thank you and well done to all teachers. As Principal I am aware that many teachers
spend $100s on their class outfits and make‐up. I am also aware of the hard work they do each day. The Glendenning
community is very fortunate to have the teacher group we have at present.
There are coordinators for a concert. To Mrs Suri who arranged all of the bus transport, thank you. To Miss Howard
and Mr Keyes who coordinated the holding rooms and student movement, thank you. To Mrs Rowe who
coordinated the music for the evening, thank you. Creatively, Miss Fitzgerald coordinated the slide show and the
finale – both of these are key to the success of the night and for all that she has done, thank you to Miss Fitzgerald.
The process of collecting the information re seating at the club, producing the information notes to parents,
organising the tickets and student collection passes as well as coordinating movement onto and from the stage
were all tasks handled by Miss Rox and I congratulate her, along with all of those staff who supported her for a
magnificent effort.
Finally, there was the students. To all of the students I say a huge well done. You have made your teachers proud –
you learnt – you rehearsed – you waited and you showed all of the cooperation and hard work that your teachers
know you are capable of and bring out so well in your school activities.
Additional Programs are available from the front office for any parent who would like one.
