Time:Tuesday3pm-5.30pmRoom:ENR2S495Thisseminarwillfocusonthehumandimensionsofglobalenvironmentalchangewithaparticularfocusonthesocietalcausesandconsequencesoflargerscalechangesinclimateandlandcoverandtheassociatedpolicyresponsesfromlocaltoglobal.Overthecourseofthesemesterwewillexplorethehistoryandcurrentstatusofsocialscienceapproachestoglobalenvironmentalchangefromseveraltheoreticalperspectives(e.g.politicaleconomy,feminism)byinterrogatingkeyconcepts(e.g.sustainability,vulnerability,Anthropocene,climatejustice),bylookingathowsocialscienceisusedinkeyassessments(e.g.IPCC),andbyexaminingtheworkofleadingscholars(e.g.FrankBiermann,HarriettBulkeley,EricLambin)andemergingresearchers(papersbasedonrecentPhDdissertations).Courseworkwillincludeshortessaysaboutpeopleandconcepts,analysisofdataandtexts(e.g.SDGs,ParisAgreement),preparingfordiscussions,andafinalcoursepaper.Someoftheactivitieswillincludegroupwork.ThisseminarisacorecoursefortheGlobalChangeminorbutmayalsobeofinteresttootherstudentsworkinginareassuchasclimate,environmentalgovernance,orpoliticalecology.FormoreinformationcontactDianaLivermanliverman@u.arizona.eduandformoreinformationontheinstructorconsulthttps://dianaliverman.wordpress.com/
