Palm Coast Decorative Painters
An Affiliate of the Society of Decorative Painters February 2017 Volume 14 Issue 2
From your President, Lana Raymond:
We had 18 present for our January free
paint class. Everyone was working on some-
thing different. It’s fun to see what others
are working on. Not everyone stayed to
paint or have lunch, but they were there for
the Chapter meeting. I enjoyed getting to
visit with other members.
I hope we will have that many to sign up for
our upcoming classes. We need for our
members to support our Chapter. Please
check out our website and newsletter for fu-
ture projects and send in your registration to
Linda Doup.
A committee was formed to decide on pro-
jects we can paint and sell at the National
Convention in May to raise money for the
Chapter, Kids R First Program, and the
scholarship fund. Members on that com-
mittee are: Nancy Walsh, Lee Fasnacht,
Ruth McDonald, Barbara Jacobs and Lana
Raymond. Thank you ladies for stepping
up!
We are going to have a busy 2017. We wel-
come any comments or suggestions to help
make our Chapter more successful.
Lana Raymond
The ladies at our January luncheon asked for my Texas Chili recipe. I said I would put it in the newsletter, so here it is! 3 lbs. lean beef, coarsely ground 28 oz. crushed tomatoes 15 oz. canned tomato sauce Water 3 heaping TBSP. chili powder 1 tsp. oregano 1 tsp. cumin powder 2 onions chopped 6 cloves garlic, chopped 1 TBSP. paprika Salt to taste 3 TBSP flour for thickener if needed (1 tsp. Cayenne powder can be added for heat – I don’t use it) Sear the meat in the pot until gray. Add crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce and enough water to cov-er the meat and mix well. Stir in chili powder, oregano, cumin, onions, garlic, paprika and salt. Let the mixture simmer for 1 to 2 hours, stirring gently at intervals during that time. I add 2 cans of Bush’s chili beans – undrained. If the chili is too watery, add the flour to enough water to make a paste and add to the pot and blend it in thoroughly. Enjoy!

Remember that an exciting time is upon us with the National Convention in our backyard. It will be a great opportunity to meet the movers and
shakers in the world of decorative painting. Yep, right here in Daytona in May of this year.
On the local level the cost of workshops increases $5 without member-
ship. Also a group of really nice people will miss you.
Hope to see you soon.

Happy New Year!!
As your new 1st VP, I would like to thank you for your vote of confidence. You may not know
this, but this makes me a little nervous since I have to follow Lana, who is remarkable in her abil-
ity to get things done. I will do my best to not disappoint you.
We have a wonderful selection of projects for 2017 and hopefully you will participate in every
session. And how about bringing a friend or someone just wanting to meet a friendly group and
learn new techniques?
We had a great time at our January “free paint” session. And Lana’s Texas chili has made Fritos
in Chili a staple at my house. Yummy!
Our National Convention brings an opportunity to take classes from Nationally known artists
and to put our best foot forward in recruiting new members.
Our February class is a Zentangle Angel taught by Cheri Bergquist. What a relaxing way to create
a beautiful 11x14” piece of art. The cost is $15 and a $6 supply fee. We only have to bring Mi-
cron pens, sizes .01, .005, and .8 and if you have, water color pencils and a small brush. You
may also use color pencils. So now is a great time to use that 40% coupon at Hobby Lobby or
Michaels. Derwent makes a set of about 15 colors for about $20. If you don’t have watercolor
pencils or color pencils, no worry, we’ll have some to share. Cheri is preparing our drawing out-
line. Don’t we love the projects that we can just go and have fun?
Supply list:
Micron Pins- .005, .01, .8 (you must bring these pens)
Water color pencils and a small round brush (optional)
Color pencils (optional)
Hard surface drawing board
Kneaded eraser
Pencil sharpener (optional, we can share)
The cut-off date for registration is January 29.
The following have signed up for the February class:
Georgia S., Linda D., Jan N., Jane W., Lee F., Judy H., Anita P., Noreen W., Ann H., Mary
Lou P., Lana R., Barbara F. , Nedra L., Joann H.

Our March class is “Paradise” to be taught by Pat Smelkoff. Members signed up for this class are: Jane
VB., Ruth M., Judy H., Mary Lou P., Lana R.
We are waiting for a supply list from Pat and should have it at the February meeting.
Help! Help!
We still need a few people to bring snacks and volunteer for set-up and cleanup. If you have a little ex-
tra time during our sessions, please volunteer. (Duties: Clean-up tables and return them to original po-
sition. Vacuum if necessary, Police kitchen, bathroom, bag and remove trash. We must take the trash
with us. )Call or email Linda Doup to sign-up to help!
Need to try out a new recipe? Bring it, we will be your best critics!
See you February 4 .

for Alzheimer's disease. Ann was a Charter member of P.C.D.P. and also taught sev-
