ADDITIONAL MATERIALS Circular knitting needle size 7 (4.5 mm), 16 in. (40.5 cm) long Double pointed knitting needles size 7 (4.5 mm), set of 5

GAUGE 20 sts = about 4 in. (10 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

NOTE 1. Hat is worked in one piece in the round, beginning on a circular needle and then

changing to double pointed needles when sts have been sufficiently decreased.2. A ribbed edge is worked, then Hat is worked in St st worked in the rnd (knit every

rnd) with 2 colors of yarn.3. The top of the Hat is shaped with decreases.4. Pom-pom is made separately and then tied to top of Hat.

HAT With A cast on 100 sts. Join, being careful not to twist. Place marker for beginning of rnd.

Ribbed edge Rnd 1 (RS): * K2, p2; rep from * to end of rnd. Rep Rnd 1 for ribbed edge until piece measures about 2 1/2 in. (6 cm) from beginning.

Heart pattern Rnds 1 and 2: With A, knit.

Note Rnds 3 and 7 are worked with 2 colors of yarn. Carry the yarn color not in use across the inside of the Hat. When working solid A color rnds of the Hat, carry B up the inside of the Hat to the next rnd on which you’ll use it.

Rnd 3: *With A, k3, with B, k1; rep from * around. Rnds 4-6: With A, knit. Rnd 7: *With A, k1, with B, k1, with A, k2; rep from * around. Rnd 8: With A, knit. Rnds 9-40: Rep Rnds 1-8.

Shape Top of Hat Rnd 1 (Decrease Rnd): With A, *k2, k2tog; rep from * around – you’ll have 75 sts.

Note As you work Rnd 2, change to double pointed needles (by simply knitting onto one double pointed needed at a time) to finish working the top of the Hat.

Rnd 2: With A knit. Rnd 3 (Decrease Rnd): *With A, k1, with B k2tog; rep from * around – 50 sts. Rnds 4 and 6: Rep Rnd 2. Rnd 5 (Decrease Rnd): *With A, k2tog; rep from * around – 25 sts. Rnd 7 (Decrease Rnd): *With A, K2tog; rep from * around to last st, knit last st – 13 sts remain. Rnd 8: With A, knit.

Cut yarn leaving a long yarn tail. Thread tail into blunt needle and draw through remaining sts. Pull to close opening at top of Hat. Knot securely.

FINISHING With B and following package instructions, make a medium size pom-pom. Tie pom-pom to top of Hat.

Weave in ends.
