fle-iche-t nur, bet;rulrte Scha-t-ten Bach This secular, solo cantata for soprano with oboe obligato was
written around 1718-1723 for a wedding in Cothen, and is nicknamed the 11wedding cantata n.

Phoebus hastens with swift steeds through the new-born world, and even he is so entranced that he too wants to be in love.

Then Cupid also seeks his pleasure when the purple meadows laugh, when the flowers in splendor are arrayed, and in his kingdom the lovely flowers do likewise fiery hearts conquer.

How Long in Torment Sighing Mozart This duet is from the third act of the M~ge of Figaro which was
premiered in Vienna in 1786. Count Almaviva is trying to convince Susanna, his wife's personal maid, to meet him in the garden that evening. Susanna agrees, but only to lead the Count into a trap to reveal to his wife, the countess, his unfaithfulness.

This duet is from the first act of Don Giovanni which was premiered in Prague in 1787. Don Giovanni attempts to seduce the country girl, Zerlina, who is hesitant at first, but weakens and agrees to leave her fiance, Masetto, and go off with the Don.

Rimsky-Korsakov was one of the principle Russian nationalist composers and formed a link bet een the first generation of nationalists and the Russian composers of the early twentieth century. He left his early career in the navy and became active in Russia and abroad as a conductor and composer. His works are best known for their brilliant and imaginative orchestration.

Captivated by the rose, the nightingale sings over her both day and night. The rose, however, listens in silence. On a lyre a young man sings to a sweet maiden. However, she doesn't know to whom he's singing his song of love or why his sorrowful song should make her cry.

Miss Hart has studied and sung at the Banff School of Fine Arts, Courtenay Music Centre and the University of Toronto Opera School. This past summer she sang in Masterclasses in Aldeburgh, England, at the Britten-Pears School for Advanced Musical Studies. She has also performed across Canada, and is currently Lecturer in Voice at Memorial University of Newfoundland.
OOUGLAS DUNSMORE is a choral conductor of considerable experience. In 1972 he received his B.Mus.Ed. from the University of Saskatchewan and in 1976 received his Master of Music in Choral Conducting from the University of Regina. He worked as a choral specialist \I-Ii th the Regina Public School Board until his appointment to the faculty of the Department of Music at Memorial University of Newfoundland in 1979. Under his baton the MUN Chamber Choir finished first in the 1980 CBC National Amateur Choir Competition and the MUN Festival Choir won the Canadian National Music Festival's Lincoln Trophy for adult choirs in 1982.
As a music educator, Mr. Dunsmore has been involved in the development of choral and vocal music by serving as clinician, adjudicator and/or executive member for the Saskatchewan Music Educators' Association, the Saskatchewan Choral Federation, the Saskatchewan and Newfoundland Music Festival Associations, and the Newfoundland Teacher•s Association Music Council; he has recently been elected president of the Newfoundland and Labrador Choral Federation.
In addition to this, Mr. Dunsmore has been active in solo performances ranging from various university and community choirs, opera and musical productions to recital appearances both in Saskatchewan and Newfoundland.
Mr. Dunsmore is currently Assistant Professor of Music at Memorial University of Newfoundland and Choi nnas ter at Gower Street United Church in St. John's.
MAUREEN VOLK received her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Regina in 1975, then spent four years at the Juilliard School in New York, where she studied piano with Sasha Gorodnitzki. During her studies in New York, she was awarded three Canada Council Arts Grants, as well as the Edna Riefsnider Scholarship for outstanding achievements in piano at Juilliard. She received her Master of Music degree from Juilliard in 1977.
Miss Volk has performed in New York as well as in Canada, as a soloist, chamber musician, and accompanist. She was the winner of the William S. Boyd Competition in Augusta, Georgia, and as a result performed as soloist with the Augusta Symphony in February 1980. In March 1982, she performed the Shostakovich Concerto #2 with the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, and in February 1982, she perfonned solo recitals in Gander, Grand Falls, Comer Brook and Stephenville.
Miss Volk is currently an Assistant Professor with the Department of Music at Memorial University.
RICHARD VAUGHAN, a native of St. John's, graduated from Mt. Allison University with a Bachelor of Music and a certificate of performance in 197-6. While an undergraduate he was a member of the National Youth Orchestra (1975) and a recipient of a Canada Council grant to study with Daniel Stolper and John Mack. In 1976 he was awarded a Swiss government scholarship to study for two years with Jean Paul Goy at the Conservatoire de Musique in Lausanne, Switzerland. In 1980 Mr. Vaughan graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Madison with a master's degree in music performance. He is a member of the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra.
