Standing as a historical monument the old town with its imposing town houses, large squares and dreamy streets is always worth a visit. Busy street cafes, Italian ice cream parlours, restaurants and inns with cozy beer gardens shape the life of the district town. Beautiful things beyond the commodity can be found in the trendy shops and shops with personal consultation. Discover the town alone: at the TVB offi ce you can borrow free iPods that will guide you to the most interesting places of the town.
Art and culture fi nd the town ....
The culture with its many events is formative for the town life. In the summer months the great acting world of the Salzburg Festival plays in the old salt refi nery in the great location of the „Alte Saline“. It doesn‘t matter if you like classical, folk or modern events, the Cultural Forum Hallein offers throug-hout the year a varied programme of concerts, ca-baret, theatre and much more. In several galleries, exhibitions of international and local artists are held regularly.
Meet the Celts, experience the town history.
The Celtic museum in Hallein is one of the biggest museums of Celtic his-tory in Europe. The combination of cemeteries, settlement areas and the salt mining in the Dürnberg mountain is exceptional for the Iron Age. The abso-lute highlight: the 2.500 years old, Celtic beak-spouted ewer (picture). In addition, three prince rooms (1756) and a wide variety of ob-jects associated with the history of Hallein are to be seen. Various offers for children make the visit a memorable experience for the whole family.
The story by F. X. Gruber and his world-famous Christmas carol »Silent Night, Holy Night! «. The museum is housed in the former home of the composer Franz Xaver Gruber in the heart of the me-dieval old town opposite the parish church. The main focus is on the creation and dissemination of the famous Christmas carol „Silent Night, Holy Night!“. The numerous originals include autographs and the guitar with which the song was played for the fi rst time in 1818.
