Academic Success Rewarded
By Paige Jeanpierre and Sierra Dinnwiddie
The principal of Creative Communications Academy held a behavioral and academic awards assembly in
November. The purpose of the assembly was to remind students of expected behaviors during the start of thesecond quarter and to reward honor roll students from the first quarter. Mrs. Yvette Abraham, the schoolcounselor, Mr. Scott, CCA Principal, and 7 thgrade teacher, Mrs. Trice all had encouraging words for students. As a team of seventh- and eighth-grade students at CCA, we have been asked to do everything with integrity.
That means with pride and honesty. We were reminded of the hallway procedures and how to conduct ourselvesappropriately on the buses and in the cafeteria. Our behavior is always on display for the community to see,and we should condition ourselves to respond respectfully to any adult that addresses us.Mr. Scott was proud to announce that we havent had many problems with Cyber Bullying or sexual
harassment. Students think because Mr. Scott and the District made awareness of these issues a high priority, now that students know better, they do better. If it does become a problem, we should notify our parents, sothey may intervene and report it to the proper authorities. One of the ways we can show more respect is by taking care of our classrooms. We can clean up behind
ourselves and not destroy the schools property. We can also do more homework and put forth extra effort toshow our parents and teachers that we care about what they do for us.Our Terra Nova scores indicated that there were 50 students who were extremely
close to being average or above average. Mr. Scott gave the teachers a flyer to postin their room as a reminder to those 50 students to stay committed to the task at hand.He was disappointed that only nine students in seventh grade made the honor rollcompared to the 65 students who made it in eighth grade.
Those students who did make the honor roll were awarded with a certificateand their pictures are on the CCA bulletin board near the front entrance.
Those who made high honor roll (principals scholars) also received a pin to
wear on their uniforms, and eventually on their CCA blazer. Mrs. Trice
awarded the top students in Journalism for each of her groups with a five-
dollar gift card to the fast food restaurant of their choice. She promised to
double it next quarter for all students who receive an A.

Rough Start Requires Tenacity
By Shawnna Evans
The eighth-grade boys basketball team coached by Mr. Aaron Stevens, is off to a rough start for the
2014-2015 season. Their current record is five wins, five losses. Our returning seventh-grader JoshuaCounts, who is now an eighth grader says, I dont like to talk about losing because we will soon win
a game. We just need a little more teamwork and encouragement to win our next game. So lets all
agree to attend the next game and support our eighth-grade basketball players by cheering them on to
victory.
On a positive note, the seventh grade boys basketball team has managed to start with a record of nine
wins and one loss. Their only loss so far came at the hands of Coolidge. They are coached by Mr.
Kyle Janczewski, who is the new Health teacher at the middle school. Lets encourage our players to
keep up their hard work both on and off the basketball court!
