THE BENCHMARK FOR LIGHT RAIL SYSTEMS
The CONTEC CSV 24 is setting the benchmark
for grooved rail and T-rail switch machi-
nes in light rail systems.
With an overall switch machine height of
180 mm (7 inches) only, CONTEC is
able to offer a very low profile de-
sign allowing the installation on top of
a regular wooden or concrete tie or con-
crete slab. Simple time-saving installation
and maintenance procedures guarantee
highest operating efficiency and low life
cycle costs (LCC).
The modular design makes the switch ma-
chine available for installation on the main
line as well as in depots.
Maximum reliability under most ex-
treme conditions and the compatibility with
other systems are making the CSV 24 the
primary choice for initial installation or re-
trofits into existing railway environments.

THE OPTIMIZED MANUAL SWITCH MACHINE
The switch machine CONTEC CSV 34 was
designed for manually operated grooved
rail and T-rail turnouts. The set-up of the
machine is clearly structured, easy to under-
stand and very effective.
The standard version of the CSV 34 is based
on proven mechanical components which
are installed in an earth box, crossable
by individual traffic, or equivalent devices
to complete new or existing turnouts.
We only process high quality material
proven for long term use in rough railway
environments, reducing the maintenance
required and therefore minimizing the asso-
ciated costs.

The watertight stainless steel box of the
switch machine CitySwitch CSV 24 has
outer dimensions of approx. 1000 x 550 x
180 mm (40 x 21.5 x 7 inches). All mecha-
nic, hydraulic and electric components
are installed into this very low profile box.
The compact outline – particularly the low
height of the CitySwitch CSV 24 – opens
a wide-spread field of applications for
all kinds of grooved and T-rail turnouts,
whether new or already in service.
The CSV 24 is perfectly suitable for instal-
lation in residential areas, as noise emission
is far below other light rail switch machines
on the market.
There are already more than 600 CSV 24
switch machines in world wide operation
due to the convincing features – just 3
years after introduction into the market.
The watertight box of the CSV 24 switch
machine as well as all external compon-
ents are made of stainless steel.
Every mechanically strained part is made
of special steel - inductive hardened. Even
after a test with more than 1 million cyc-
les under load the components have still
been within manufacturing tolerance!
In addition, all hydraulic components are
combined in a Mono-Block Drive Unit. No
pipes, hoses or fittings.
YOUR NO. 1 CHOICE FOR ALL APPLICATIONS
The compact design simplifies the instal-
lation - also into existing earth boxes of
other vendors. Besides, the CSV 24 is plug-
and-play compatible with all available
control systems and power supply volta-
ges ranging from 24 to 750 V AC and DC.
Customizing the switch machine is easy.
Supplementary to the basic CSV 24 with
spring setting device various add-on modu-
les like separate detector rods and internal
(trailable) locking devices are available.
Thanks to the fully modular structure all add-
on modules can be retrofitted at a later date.
For turnouts with switch rods, connecting
the switch points or for moveable point
frogs, a prism locking device is avail-
able. All locking principals are EBA (German
Federal Railway Association) approved.

BE IN TRIM FOR HIGHER EFFICIENCY
The manual switch machine CSV 34 is
operated by a recess connected to the
setting lever of the machine or by the ve-
hicle trailing through the turnout. The CSV
34 is available for installation into track,
starting with 900 mm (35 inches) gauge.
By changing the position of a single compo-
nent, the switch machine can be converted
from standard to automatic return operation.
The maximum throw is 80 mm (3.15 in-
ches), respectively 120 mm (4.75 inches).
The switch machine is clearly structured,
simply and effectively designed. Two coil
springs are provided to secure the points
in the end positions and to push the points
into a chosen end position after trailing.
Mechanically separated adjustable end posi-
tion dampers allow for high trailing speeds.
Similar to the CSV 24 type there are add-on
modules available for the CSV 34: two se-
parate detector rods to monitor the position
of the points and a roller locking device for
increased holding force in the end position.
When developing the CSV 34 the main
targets were: maximum reliability and
low maintenance operation. Bushings and
bearings are equipped with latest
wear-resistant components. Using high
quality material like stainless steel
and inductive hardened steel underli-
nes the high quality of the CSV 34.

CSV 24 KV-P-EH-M - MAINLINE
Upper speed range: CSV 24 KV-P-EH-M
is approved for maximum mainline
speeds. The locking mechanism is certified
according to safety class AK 6 and EBA
approved in full accordance with DB stan-
dards. Due to its well proven technology,
CSV 24 KV-P-EH-M offers highest levels
regarding safety and reliability.
CSV 24 O-(P)-EH-M - DEPOT
Lower speed range: CSV 24 O-(P)-EH-M
is specifically designed for depot appli-
cations. The turnout tongues are spring
loaded held in end position; therefore,
the switch machine is fully capable for
trailing as standard operation. After trai-
ling, the switch machine is ready for
the next operation immediately.
Reliability by experience: CSV 34 offers
safe holding and setting characteristics,
taylorised to the needs and conditions of
the respective tramway and metro systems.
Holding force and trailing are adjustable
as per system‘s specification and require-
ments.
The optional detection and roller lock
modules guarantee for full-range adapta-
bility to all requirements of any system.
