Letter to the BuzzPlease respect the dead & their families

I have been ollowing the discussion o thecemetery issue regarding monuments in the news butI have never heard what they intend to do about aproblem with flat stones. And yes they can be a large

problem.I understand that or maintenance purposes on

the part o those who care or our Highland Cemeteryit may make their job easier. But as nice as it is to mowright over the sites o these graves there is debris lef

behind by the mowing----grass clippings and then dirtblows in and the rain and snow will plaster them rightto the stone. We have been burying amily members---20 +---up there or over 60 years. When we go to care orthose sites on Memorial Days we spend a lot o timecleaning and clearing some o the flat stones involved.Tere are some really sad looking grave sites in someareas where there is no longer any amily to do this orthem. Probably the saddest o these is in what they callthe Childrens Section because there are many inantsand children plus some adults buried there. Some are

older graves. When those flat little stones are put in they havea tendency to sink as the ground settles. Eventually

the sod begins to grow over them and will eventuallybury the stone along with the occupant o the grave.We have cut the sod back on a ew in an area wherewe have amily members buried. My guess is thatprobably some o those oldest stones are now buriedin the ground and finding that site would be almostimpossible. And yes, people do sometimes come backespecially i they are doing amily research. It is notusually a parent that comes back but probably a brotheror sister who is now a middle aged adult. I wonder i the Cemetery Committee has been upthere and checked on this problem, are they aware othe problem and how do they plan to address it. I anyo you want to look then go check with Danny Miller

who does a wonderul job o maintaining our cemetery

and he will tell the particular area I am reerring to.And I know as with most public entities the bottom

line is always money. Never enough to do everyth ingpeople would like to have done. However I do thinkshowing respect or these sites and the character thatthe monuments can bring to the Cemetery needs to bekept in mind also. ~ Doris Franzen

ST MARIE HAPPENINGSLADIES BUNKO-The game was cancelled for this month.

GENTLEMENS CLUB- It was again Lord Byron (Lindsay), the grandwinner of the games. Walter Watts served up a couple of deluxe pizzasand Chiechi contributed the an-ja-vees (anchovies).

GARDENING-The heat finally came and all the gardens went crazy. Nowits time to harvest what youve got before they get tough and rip out thosethat have gone to seed, and save the seeds. If we re-plant fast growingveggies we should get a 2nd crop before cold hits.

HUNTERS- Glasgow FWP started selling Deer B surplus tags overthe counter on Aug 4th- price for local resident is $10. They are good invarious areas, but none in 670.

SICKNESS-Wild Bill Millerick took another spill. But this time he didntbreak his neck, just went to the ER with a banged up rotator cuff andshoulder. Get well Big Daddy!

DEVELOPER/INVESTOR- Report. People are tired of my ruminatingand renagulating about these fellas. So I must only remark that the Lawsof The Land dictate and the laws and facts are not on their side. So itsall been just a Mental and Legal Exercise at best!

KELLY INTERVIEW- I spoke with Pat Kelly over the phone at greatlength and followed up with an in person interview on August 4th. Overthe phone Kelly expressed strongly that St Marie Development Corp

(SMDC) shares have absolutely NO VALUE. I will research and followup on that at a later writing. The following are the main issues that Kellydeemed the most important and he presented them to me verbally as wellas in writing:

Kellys opening statement:There is only one way for Valley Countyand Glasgow to benefit from St Marie and that is if a developer cancontrol the vast majority of undeveloped units and know he will getcooperation from those benefitting from development. I had the inventoryconsolidated but the County would not protect the assets from Tax Deedsfrom the Sovereign Citizens, Marv Bethea, and Mike Mitchell who havestarted tearing it apart which will make it impossible to bring St Marieback. Kellys 3 main issues are as follows:

1.Good title on all the property, A quiet title action is needed.

2. Consolidated Inventory- If there are ten times as many homes for salethan people wanting to purchase, the prices will stay as they are, low at$20K, $10K, $3K...no value. The same applies to rents which will go to$200 or less when supply is bigger than demand. The developer mustcontrol the inventory and pricing.

3. National Advertising- There is not now or will there ever be localdemand to fill the 700 plus dilapidated homes. It must have a themewhere like people join together....i.e. Military Retiree Community,Christian Community, etc. What is the alternative? St Marie will continueto fall into the ground. Rent will be $200 a month and low prices willcontinue to drop or stay in the $20K range, who will live in a dump. StMarie is an eye sore and more. Thats Kellys story!

All Glasgow High School students, grade 9-12, whowill be participating in extracurricular activities will berequired to attend an inormational meeting held bythe school administration, coaches, and sponsors. Tis

meeting will be held on Tursday, August 14th at 7:00p.m. in the GHS Auditorium.

During this session school policies and procedureswill be discussed. It will be required that a parent or legal guardianalso attend for the student to participate in anyM.H.S.A. school-sponsored activity this year. Fall Sports Specific Coaches-Parent meetings willalso take place this evening.

July ended the five consecutive month run o coolerthan normal temperatures. Te average temperatureor the month was 71.6 degrees which was 0.5 degreewarmer than normal. Te average high or the month was 87.2degrees while the average low was 56.1 degrees. 28

July was drier than normal. A total o 0.58 incho rain was recorded which was 1.20 inches below thenormal o 1.78 inches. Tere were only two days inJuly in which a tenth o an inch or more o rain ell.0.31 inch ell on the 11th while 0.22 was recorded onthe 7th.

So ar or 2014, Glasgow has been 1.83 degreescooler than normal and 1.70 inches drier than normal. Te wind gusted 30 mph or greater on 14 days

during the month and 45 mph or greater on three days.Te peak wind or the month was 60 mph on the 24th. Te normal temperatures or the month o Augustbegin with highs in the upper 80s and lows in theupper 50s, ending the month with highs in the lower80s and lows in the lower 50s. Average rainall or thethe month is 1.23 inches. So ar weve received 0.29inch with that little soaker on Sunday.
