#UACONVENTION2013Wasn’t Convention at the Del amazing? Agent Gary Kempler definitely thought so when he penned this note to Chuck Mankamyer. “Dear Chuck, I simply want to thank you and United American for a fantastic trip to San Diego. The setting at the historic Hotel del Coronado was superb, and it was great getting to know the other Agents and their spouses. I am so looking forward to next year in New Orleans.”
Check out the 2013 Convention fun on YouTube at: http://youtu.be/0hvn6QOoVRI. If you didn’t make it to San Diego, New Orleans is calling in 2014.
INTEREST RATES SETThe Lifestyle Annuity rate for August 2013, is 3.00 percent. Rates are reviewed and adjusted accordingly. The Deposit Fund Rider new business interest rate for 2013 is 3.00 percent.

WORDS OF WISDOM“If you work just for money, you’ll never make it. But if you love what you are doing, and always put the customer first, success will be yours.” ~ Ray Kroc
American businessman
Charles Mankamyer Senior Vice President / General Agents
You may remember the old Bob Dylan song, Times … They Are A Changin'.
Part of one particular verse seems especially appropriate these days:
"Come senators, congressmen, please heed the call; Don't stand in the doorway; don't block up the hall; There's a battle outside And it is ragin'; It'll soon shake your windows and rattle your walls; For the times they are a-changin' ."
It seems to me Congress has done little but ‘stand in the doorway’ and ‘block up the hall’ so we have unprecedented gridlock in Washington and a healthcare bill the majority of Americans don’t want. And we definitely have a battle raging nationally over the future of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
CONCERNS ABOUT THE ACAAccording to a recent CBS poll, 54 percent of Americans disapprove of the healthcare law; 36 percent approve of it; and 10 percent say they don't know about it. A whopping 39 percent want Congress to repeal it — the highest percentage recorded in a CBS News poll to date. Labor unions, originally among the strongest supporters of the ACA, are changing their tune. Many union leaders are angry about unexpected consequences of the new law that may jeopardize health benefits for millions of their members and increase premiums for others.
Whether in response to concerns from the American public or because the administration underestimated its ability to implement parts of the bill, the government is easing requirements for
those seeking federal subsidies through the ACA. Easing requirements makes it easy to apply for assistance without submitting documentation to support the need for aid — basically eliminating any checks and balances. The government has also changed the implementation date of the employer mandate. The reason is likely due to the extensive submission requirements needed to implement the mandate. Some people feel the individual mandate could follow suit, because much of the same information is required to implement it. The more time goes by, the more convoluted the ACA becomes, and the more I see the possibilities increasing for fraud and abuse of the system.
FOCUS ON RECRUITINGFortunately, we can focus on the Senior market and the Medicare Advantage Annual Enrollment Period that’s approaching. According to a recent industry survey, 45 percent of America’s insurance brokers are considering leaving the under age 65 market. What a blessing that can be for you. Talented, experienced men and women will need to fill a professional and financial void, and you can be the one to provide it. Recruit now to build an Agent workforce to dramatically increase your 2013 earnings. UA offers free, live recruiting and training seminars around the country that can help you and your new team members get on the right track. Check the Agent website for upcoming dates and locations. And remember, Sept. 27, Senior Recruiter, Danielle Kirschner, is holding a Training Seminar at the Home Office in McKinney with special guest presenter, Christopher Graham, CLU. Chris has decades of industry experience and can teach you to achieve the same kind of success he has. This event is already filling up, so reserve your seat soon. You definitely don't want to miss this one!
MA SPECIAL ELECTION PERIODIf you can’t wait until Oct. 15, to sell to MA members, you may not need to. There are several Special Election Periods (SEP) related to Medicare Advantage members. If a Senior enrolls in a Medicare Advantage plan during his or her initial time to enroll in Medicare Parts A and B — generally around the person’s 65th birthday — he or she has a 12-month SEP to disenroll and return to Original Medicare. If the MA experience isn’t a positive one, MA members will be looking for an alternative ... and you have it.
Yes, times are a changin’, but it’s good for Agents selling Medicare Supplements. With the right preparation now, you can have a successful fourth quarter!

WHO NEEDSACCIDENT COVERAGE?
EVERYONE.WHO NEEDSACCIDENT COVERAGE?
EVERYONE!Accidents can happen to anyone at any time, but seem more prevalent during the summer season with seasonal activities like swimming, boating, biking, barbecuing, and hiking. Summer vacations also mean increased highway travel and increased potential for vehicular accidents.
Accidents can involve a minor cut or scrape, or result in the life-altering loss of a loved one. With United American’s and First United American’s $3,000 Accidental Death Policy (ADP) and UA’s Accident Compensation Plan (UA-250), Agents have the opportunity to offer a degree of financial protection to customers.
StatiSticS ShOw:*
◆ Of 4,000,000 injury-related deaths worldwide, 177,154 of those occur in the United States.
◆ An unintentional injury-related death occurs every four minutes.
◆ accidents are the leading cause of death among those 1 to 44 years old and the fifth leading cause of death overall.
Who needs accident coverage? EVERYONE! Use the $3,000 ADP as an introduction to UA or First UA. Whether you’re talking to a new or existing customer, this offer can get the ball rolling and help you transition to additional policies and/or provide you with referrals.
Want to brush up on your product awareness? Take the $3,000 ADP and UA-250 Brainshark training on the Agent website for the extra edge you need to gain your prospect’s trust and provide the protection they need.

A new First United AmericAn consUmer site is coming soon!
With the Medicare Advantage Annual Enrollment Period approaching, get ready to hit the ground running on October 15. Are you well-staffed, or do you need to add to your Agency? Now is the time to find your next top producer. Here are a few tips to help you find people to add quality and quantity to your team and your production! And don’t forget - you can order preapproved recruiting ads from the Ad Catalog at UAOnline.
#1. Create a positive recruitment message
Post it on your website, on job boards, in industry newsletters, or in local or county newspapers to increase your chances of attracting top talent to boost your bottom line. Include only Company approved information about our product portfolio, earning potential, and opportunities for advancement.
#2. Look outside the insurance industry
Don’t ignore the vast numbers of men and women outside the insurance industry with a proven track record in areas like financial services, real estate, and other types of sales. According to Insurance Hiring System, 67 percent of insurers hire top producers from other industries. Look for strong sales people and individuals with good people skills. When you meet one in your daily activities, talk to him or her about joining your team.
#3. Tell customers
Mention to customers you’re looking for individuals to join your Agency and ask if they know someone who might be interested. Customers know you, the kind of service you provide, and the products you offer. They may be interested themselves or have a son, daughter, niece, nephew, brother, or sister looking for a new career opportunity. Remember, everyone can be a potential recruit!
#4. Join local branches of national insurance associations
Meeting other industry professionals allows you to network and form valuable relationships. These contacts may know of individuals looking for a new opportunity who are just perfect for your organization.
#6. Form an ongoing relationship with your community career center or unemployment office
Let them know you are looking for licensed Agents and what you want in terms of education, skills, and work experience. They may have a list of potential recruits for you!
#5. Attend job fairs … especially at local colleges
College graduates don’t have experience or licenses yet, but they can get both. With no preconceptions of how an insurance Agency operates, they also are highly trainable. Encourage them to pursue a career in the insurance industry.
