“In the beginning God …”

These first four words of the Bible tell us a lot about GOD

Page 3: Attributes of God L1 Solitariness

“In the beginning [time]

God created the

heaven [space]

and earth [matter].”

Genesis 1:1

“In the beginning God…” GOD was ALONE

Before all that was made was made, God was without ANYONE else but Himself

IN THE BEGINNING GOD …

There was a time when there was NO time; a time when God was alone: No heaven, no

angels singing God’s praises, no universe, no earth, no animals, no people . . . Only GOD.

Page 7: Attributes of God L1 Solitariness

“In the beginning God…” GOD is UNCREATED

Since He was there at the beginning when everything was created, it means that He wasn’t

created.

Page 8: Attributes of God L1 Solitariness

“In the beginning God …” GOD is SELF-EXISTENT

All events have causes. All creatures have been created. EXCEPT FOR GOD.

John 1:1-5 In the beginning was the Word, andthe Word was with God, and the Word was God.He was in the beginning with God. All thingswere made through Him, and without Himnothing was made that was made. In Him waslife, and the life was the light of men.

Page 9: Attributes of God L1 Solitariness

“In the beginning God …” GOD is ETERNAL

He has always been, IS, and will always be GOD

God was BEFORE the beginning of time, space, and matter . . .

This is why God says He is “I AM.”

John 8:58 Jesus said to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, Before Abraham was, I am.

Malachi 3:6“For I am the LORD, I

change not”

Psalm 90:1-2

Before the mountains werebrought forth, or ever thou hadstformed the earth and the world, even from everlasting toeverlasting, thou art God.

Page 12: Attributes of God L1 Solitariness

This is also why God can view the past,

present, and future at the same time…

He is OUTSIDE of time!

GOD

Beginning End

Page 13: Attributes of God L1 Solitariness

“In the beginning God…” GOD doesn’t NEED anything!

The fact that God created us, means that in eternity past, He was FINE without us

That being the case, clearly He made us for HIS PLEASURE

Revelation 4:11 … You [Lord] have created all things, and for your pleasure they are and were

created.

Page 14: Attributes of God L1 Solitariness

Revelation 4:11

Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receiveglory and honour and power: for thouhast created all things, and for thypleasure they are and were created.

Colossians 1:16

For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are inearth, visible and invisible, whetherthey be thrones, or dominions, orprincipalities, or powers: all thingswere created by him, and for him:

“… Stand up and bless the LORD your God for ever and ever: and blessed be thy glorious name,

which is exalted above all blessing and praise.”

Nehemiah 4:6

Luke 17:10

So likewise ye, when ye shall havedone all those things which arecommanded you, say, We areunprofitable servants: we havedone that which was our duty to do.

Page 17: Attributes of God L1 Solitariness

Before all that was made was made, God was without ANYONE else but Himself

Compare that with us:

We need EVERYTHING:

the elements of the earth to form our bodies

life from God

oxygen in the air to breathe

water to function

food for energy
