Last week we had a visit from two representatives from the Lions Club to judge students who will represent
our school in the Lions Mad Minute Grand Challenge in Week 9 on the 25 June.
Wilf and Virginia commented on how well all of our students spoke.
This is a summary from Mrs Biggins 5/6 class.
On Tuesday the 11th of June the 4/5/6 classes had the Lions Mad minute competition.
Wilf Nitsche and Virginia from the Lions Club were the judges. Only the Year 5 students were involved in the
official competition.
We all sat in the Performing Arts room and practised while we waited for Wilf and Virginia to arrive. When they
arrived Mrs Biggins’ Year 5 students talked first. Mr O’Connor’s class went second.
All of the Year 5 students were very nervous even though we had all been practising from the start of the
year. Skye Wilson came 1st, Zaylen Smith came 2nd and Casey Wilson came 3rd from Mrs Biggins’ class.
Ally Heather came 1st, Brock Bowman came 2nd and Harry Kennion came 3rd from Mr O’Connor’s class.
All the students had a lot of fun competing in the Lions Mad Minute competition but they were all very
nervous.

LIONS MAD MINUTE

Last Wednesday, our Open-Access Chinese teachers flew down from Adelaide for face-to-face lessons.
This provides a great opportunity for our students to meet and talk with their teachers that they have been
working with so hard all term during their Open Access internet video lessons.
“George came to visit the Year 4/5 class and Mr O’Connor. We got to drink Jasmine tea pronounced
Mioli hua cha and do a Chinese test in our classroom.” - Taj Manning
“George made cups of Jasmine Tea. It tasted a bit funny but I didn’t want to complain so I didn’t say
anything.” - Ally Heather
“On Wednesday George came down and we had tea then a test and got posters. I think the tea was ok but
it tasted like hot water, it was good to try it though.” - Lincoln Bowd

LIFE EDUCATION VAN
The Life Education program is designed to help children develop the knowledge, attitudes and values they
need to make safer and healthier choices - now and into the future.
They educate in an age-appropriate way on important topics such as healthy eating; being active; the
impact of alcohol use, smoking and illicit drugs; safe use of medicines; strategies to manage social pressures
and respectfully navigate relationships both online, in the community and at home.
The Life Education will be visiting our school this week with the “dome” in the gym from Tue 18—20 June.
Over the past few weeks, students from years 4/5/6/7 have been attending ‘My Golf’ lessons at the
Blue Lake Golf Links course in Mt Gambier.
Luke Bald planned and organised these lessons through his ‘Leadership in the Community’ based subject.
This was made achievable by a grant that Luke secured from Sporting Schools.
PGA professional Craig Davis coached students in ‘My Golf’ lessons where they were introduced to the sport
of golf. Modified holes were arranged for students to practice using the different clubs with their new skills.
We would like to thank the Blue Lake Golf Links and the Port MacDonnell Golf Club for lending golf sets.
