A global-regional integration workshop on hazards and disasters
was held in Kuala Lumpur in 2012.

of Science and Technology
The two capacity building workshops on
psychological interventions supported by ROAP (2012 – 2013)
The IRDR ICoE Center of Excellence future support capacity
building programme annually until the year 2017
ROAP Natural Hazards
and Risk Steering Group

The 3rd meeting of ICSU ROAP Natural Hazards and
Risk Steering Group for Asia and the Pacific held
in April 2014 in Kuala Lumpur
Acts as the focal point and coordinator for the Natural
Hazards and Risk projects for Asia – Pacific
Oversee the implementation of initiatives, and identify
opportunities for research funding

Two capacity building workshops
on the systems approach held in 2012 and 2013
Proposals from Thailand and Taiwan are ready for funding
pending approval from the Regional Science Committee on
urban health and wellbeing
NEW PARTNER : In 2014 the United Nations University International
Institute for Global Health (UNU/IIGH) became a partner of ICSU ROAP
Organised a short course on systems approaches in urban health
funded by the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) in June
UNU IIGH course taught city management professionals and
researchers how to approach urban problems

Collaborative knowledge transfer cum knowledge laboratory
will be held in October 2014.
Members on Urban Health and Wellbeing participate in the launch of the
urban health and wellbeing International Programme Office in Xiamen
The Chair of Urban Health and Wellbeing present a keynote lecture to
inaugurate the Urban Health programme, co-sponsored by United
Nations University (UNU) and the Inter-Academy Medical Panel (IAMP)

Sustainable Energy

ICSU ROAP contributed to workshops on sustainable energy,
one in Latin America and the other in Africa
The Global – Regional Integration Workshop on Sustainable
Energy aimed to integrate the regional science plans and activities
on sustainable energy
The workshop identified important common issues, problems
and themes and made recommendations for collaborative research
Workshop on Sustainable Energy in Sub-Saharan Africa organised
by the ICSU Regional Office for Africa

Sustainability Initiative for the Marginal Seas of East Asia
(SIMSEA) was launched upon receipt of funding from ICSU
A pre-scoping workshop was held at the Japan Agency for
Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) in Kyoto in
February 2014
A planning meeting of the Core Group
of initiators of the programme in June 2014.
Establish a programme office in Manila to coordinate activities
Developed as a Future Earth project in Asia.

ROAP has been instrumental in the development of Future
Earth.
The Regional Workshop on Future Earth in Asia and the
Pacific in November 2012 Kuala Lumpur
ROAP has contributed to raise awareness of the scientific
community about Future Earth / WS in 12 countries.

A thematic session on urban health and wellbeing at the Forum on
Science, Technology and Innovation for Sustainable Development
The outcome of the forum in Current Opinion in Environmental
Sustainability (Elsevier)
